The Irishman and Sound of Metal were great. I feel in a time where people still went to the movies, Emily the Criminal and Palm Springs would've been hit movies.
On the other hand, a trip to the movies on average is way overpriced nowadays considering the lack of quality films coming out. That plus illegal streaming options makes it hard to compete under the current model.
This is such nonsense that people say. There is nothing in the times. Social people still go see movies. Anti-social people don't want to and claim "times have changed" as an excuse for their anti-social behavior.
People were able to watch movies in their homes decades ago. Businesses have become more powerful and are turning people into sheep. Some fall for it, others don't. That's what's changed. The times remain the same throughout history.

You can’t replicate the theater experience at home. You can get close with better screens and surround sound and invite some people over and get comfortable but sitting there among your loved ones and a bunch of strangers in front of a big imax or Dolby screen and experiencing this new piff thats out is unmatched

Nah he's right. Times have changed but there are many contexts to consider when saying that
People don't go to the movies like they used to and that's for a reason. For one theaters have priced out the average consumer. Not enough to where that average person is going to stop going completely, but enough to cut down and only see movies they really feel are worth making the trip and overpaying for popcorn and soda. For the last decade the only movies that have brought large attendance have been MCU, Star Wars, and Tarantino so that's who gets the theater spots
Also for the average consumer a big screen tv and a decent quality sound system have never been cheaper. And yea nothing compares to the theater experience, but the home theater experience is close enough to make nikkas reconsider spending all that money on a theater trip. The studios saw the pivot and adjusted accordingly
There's a reason nikkas like Scorsese have been bytching. He wants his extraneous budget to make a mob movie and the studios are telling him "This ain't the 90's breh. Not enough people are gonna go out to see your movie to justify this budget" Netflix, who has a history of grossly overpaying for shyt, was willing to accommodate Scorsese's requests
You think You've Got Mail or any other high grossing romantic comedy is gonna smash the box office in 2023? Fukk no and that's why all the romantic comedies are on Hulu now

He's right. All the big movies of the last couple years (Top Gun Maverick, Super Mario, etc) are all in the theater. I mean there are good smaller films to be found on streaming but the majority of them are getting lost in the endless sea of content.
