Aright, in case yall don't get a chance to watch or just want some cliff's notes from the press conference:
Coaching philosophies:
. Horny does plan on bringing elements of the PHX offense to NYC, but he said his plans will be built around the personnel and not vice versa...simple but good sign since many people felt the triangle was too rigid and limiting for our roster.
. Phil had an OC and DC for Fisher because he was new. Hornacek doesn't need training wheels, part one of "Hornacek sounds like he'll get to choose his own staff"
. Asked about Kurt Rambis being on the staff; Jeff said they'd talk and go from there. He did mention that they're familiar with each other and played in the past, but Phil was silent and it sounds like Jeff has last say. part two of "Hornacek sounds like he'll get to choose his own staff."
. Jeff played for the coach who replaced Tex in college, as such he played in a system that implemented triangle principals (this was Phil). (now from Jeff himself) When Jeff spoke to the coach about what he could do within the system (back when he was part of it) the coach reassured him "you can run any play in the triangle." This was an allusion to using PnR. Jeff expanded on that, saying that he views the triangle as a form of spacing moreso than anything. You can run a high pick and roll, adjust the placement of players by a few feet and they'll be running it within a triangle spacing. It's an interesting compromise and apparently Phil bought it.
. Jeff expected to talk with Phil for a couple of hours. Day one they spoke for 6, next he flew to NYC to meet Mills and the crew for another 6 hours of talking, and finally in the ensuing days he spent another 6 hours or so speaking with Phil and hashing things out. That's 18 hours speaking basketball, more than he says he's ever spoken with someone on the topic in a short span. That's probably the simpatico that Phil was looking for.
Roster/Player Specific Talk:
. Most excited at? Having a superstar in Melo and a 20 year in Kp who is really advanced.
. Asked about bringing in a PG, he said he was ready to work with what we have, Jerian and Jose. But would be prepared for any PG we brought in. Wroten was conspicuously unnamed but at 6'6 Horny may have plans to run him at SG. If Wroten can buy in defensively, he'd make a quality compliment to Jose who is conservative and a great shooter but doesn't slash...so I could see that tandem being part of a future plan if we're really stuck with Jose. But that's all speculation based on very limited comments.
. Does he think we have a roster ready to compete for the playoffs? No...he didn't say no, but he didn't come close to saying yes. He danced around this by saying you always want to improve your roster until you have a championship. But did conclude that the playoffs were his goal for next season.
. Specifically on KP, he sounds excited to take advantage of mismatch opportunities. He mentioned high PnR's first and foremost, this is a "no duh" comment in most cases but since we rarely utilized high PnR at all...refreshing

Also on KP he said when teams go small, they'll use him in post set ups. The sky's the limit though and he mentioned players don't come into their own until 24 or 25 usually, so there's a lot of time.
. Jeff sounds ready to recruit players and excited being in NY. Asked "who wouldn't want to coach in NY" at one point and with respect to players "who wouldn't want to win in NY" ...sounds like one of their sell points to FA's on display early.
Random Things that might be interesting to yall:
. Jeff said he spoke with Melo during his NYC visit. Not sure if this means much or nothing, but Melo must have had some knowledge of our leanings since this was the case. Maybe he wasn't completely shut out after all.
. Jeff said KP has been texting him. Mainly KP wanted Jeff to know how hard he's working this offseason...this kid is a dream player.
. Jeff once thought he'd been traded to Knicks...that woulda been cool, his play style was a good fit for our old school crew.
