With the cap rising to 92 million that means that max deals starts at 27.6 million and with 4.5% raises over 4 years it looks like this

2016-17: 27.6 million
2017-18: 28.84 million
2018-19: 30.14 million
2019-20: 31.5 million

Total contract value: 118.08 million/ 4 years

Average salary per year: 29.52 million

Melo's contract is officially a steal. The end of his contract matches the beginning of this one and ends a year earlier.

The knicks could get a shyt ton for him (if they decide to move him) especially during this years very thin FA. Also if AA and D Will opt out I believe (not 100%) the knicks could potentially have another 7 mil extra on top of a Max contract with a total of 34 Mil in cap space. The issue is outside of Durant (and maybe Horford ..... Maybe) nobody this FA deserves that kind of money. Phil is going to have a lot of options and even if the plan is for Melo to stay. With both KP and Melo here the knicks should be able to get someone either with a lot of potential or somebody who is a legit starter on a playoff team this summer for the back court.

Now who else wanna fukk with Hollywood Court?
I give up....23 and 24 isn't young now. I keep hearing Giannis and AD but them dudes ARE still young players.

Damn near everyone taken in the 2013 lottery is younger than them, they are young in the grand scheme of things, but their age in relation to their lack of experience is what @The War Report is talking about.

Also, when I bring up how there are more competitive teams in the East that are younger than the Knicks, that never seems to matter. The Pistons starting lineup averages 24 years old and have a ton more experience than Galloway and Grant, right? The Hornets & Celtics have young teams as well, which always comes back to, how do the Knicks get better in a conference featuring younger playoff teams, that also have younger more experienced core players :jbhmm:

You said Grant & Galloway aren't young players and their not the the future. Then you said that KP is on the only young player we have that's worth anything. Galloway, Grant, Anthony Davis & Antetokounmpo are all the same age & young players.

You should've just said from the jump that you don't believe that Grant or Galloway should be part of the Knicks future.

Both of those guys can still be developed.

you're not getting it fam....
anthony davis and giannis have been playing in the league for 4 going on 5 years and their development as players and ceilings are completely different compared to
galloway and grant being 27 when they reach the years of experience giannis and davis have....
not to mention the fact that they are both physical specimens....and grant and galloway are much closer to average athletically.
they can be solid role players...but they arent going to be potential franchise changers like kp...or giannis and AD

Okay. But nobody said they were franchise changers. And they can develop into some really good role players, which is what you're going to need to surround KP with.

to pair with KP we need a dynamic guard
as much as galloway hustles...he's an undersized combo guard that cant run an offense...his ceiling is avery bradley....but he's not nearly the defender he is...i could do without him
i do think grant can be a solid starting point guard eventually...like a poorer mike conley.......but ehhhh you know new york isnt the place for developing talent unless the talent is just undeniable....like kp's is.

The average age of the Knicks as currently constructed is 26. If 30 yo Arron Aflallo opts out, we get rid of 34 year old Jose Calderon, 33 year old Lou Amundson, and 26 year old Seraphin...that number only gets lower. Assuming Tony Wroten plays next season...a third of this Knicks squad will be 25 or younger AND in the rotation. I'm not anti-young players...I'm anti getting rid of serviceable veterans who CONTRIBUTE in the name of picking up youth for the sake of getting youth. All the successful teams have a good mix of youth and veterans.
