From my understanding, it's not proprietary. You can fit it with an NVME drive, but the current speeds that is offered by Sony isn't really available yet.
Sony has also said they want to certify off the shelf drives to ensure compatibility

What's the point of the rumored Lockhart broke Boi system with the X1X out there?
it's rumored to be better and cheaper. could also have a SSD, and other new features

but yeah, it's for broke boi's that probably didn't cop a X1X. and those that did cop the X1X will be looking at the more expensive sku

Stan shyt aside, what seems to be the problem with these ports? My GTX 1070 ran GTA V at a locked 60 on 1440 Ultra and around 45-50 fps on 4K ultra. These consoles should be able to just brute force that level of performance even in an unoptimized PC version of the game. Yet even load times seem slower than my PC's nvme drive, and the driving is less reponsive too. What's happening?
