Because they were peers.

Again....the idea that Kobe was considered the clear cut best player in the league is a lie that many of you using the passing of time are filling the gap with revisionist history. It was a clear debate around who was the best player in the league around that time.

There was no debate in 2006-07 seasons, that was before all the puppet commercials and whatever else you want to bring up concerning LeBron. Kobe was clearly the best player in the league.

Bro - nobody was putting Shaq in best player in the world convos in 2006.

2007 - no one thought KG or Nash were on Kobe’s level. His won’t teammate Amare said Kobe was better than everyone. And Dirk bowed down. You guys are rewriting history.

2008 - Dwight Howard was never in that convo and Bron had risen well before that - dude had just made the finals. Kobe was the consensus best. Dude ran through the WCF averaging 33 7 and 7 in the playoffs before the finals and got Duncan out of there in 5 when Spurs were the champs. KG was not in the convo for the best - the Celtics as a whole were dominant and he was their best player but no one argued KG over Kobe.

2009 - ???? The only 3 people in the conversation were Kobe, Wade and Bron.

2010 - if anything this was the year he started to slow down and people wondered if Bron had caught him. Dude was getting his knee drained during playoff series.

You guys are really rewriting history.
You were a teenager then. Sit this one one.

2006- Shaq was first team all nba. The heat nikka. The heat.

2007 - Dirk was the MVp :pachaha: KG considered probably the best 2 way player in the league being wasted in Minnesota. There’s a reason why it was called a super team when he wen to Boston.

2008- you just babbling

2009 — another year with multiple people being considered the best player not just kobe

2010 — Bron was probably the better player, but he lost and Kobe won and was the face of that lakers team.

And despite all that babbling you did at no point were you able to make an argument that Kobe was head and shoulders the best player in the league.

The 2006 season Kobe was definitely considered the league's best. But the next year Bron was made his argument that he was right there with him. This 2006 to 2010 thing is bs. There was a clear debate.

That's not the thread... I understand the thread has gone in different directions and people have brought up a lot of different talking points but the comment that was made was that Kobe was never clearly the best player and I disagree with that notion.

Kobe was the best in the Olympics in 08. Still on top after 09. Wade was close but just had less talent so had to do more at that time in his career. Then Bron took the mantle.

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED.

WHEN BRON WON THOSE MVPS
NO ONE THOUGHT HE WAS ACTUALLY
BETTER THAN KOBE.

THE CAVS HAD THE BEST RECORD
IN THE LEAGUE AND USUALLY
THE BEST PLAYER ON THE BEST TEAM
GOT MVP SO NOBODY WAS TRIPPING.

NO ONE THOUGHT A.I. OR DUNCAN
WERE BETTER THAN SHAQ WHEN
THEY WON MVPS.

NO ONE THOUGHT KG WAS THE BEST
PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE THE YR HE WON MVP.

NO ONE THOUGHT NASH WAS
THE BEST PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE
IN HIS MVP YEARS.

THE SAME FOR BARKLEY/MALONE
MVPS OVER JORDAN

IT WAS ALL NARRATIVE/RECORD BASED
AND THAT WAS COOL.

NOW nikkaS GOING BACK,
PULLING UP MVP VOTES AND shyt
LIKE THE PPL WHO WERE THERE
IN REAL TIME DONT REMEMBER
KOBE WAS VIEWED AS THE BEST PLAYER
IN THE LEAGUE DURING THAT PERIOD.

Lebron himself said KG was the best player in the league in 04

And lebron plays in the NBA so he knows more than us

Facts. That summer alone showed the real hierarchy of this shyt. When TD was apparently the best in the world he was getting washed in the Olympics by cacs.

Kobe from 02-03 season to 07-08 season was rolling on all levels. You could see how the whole USA team deferred to him in the 08 Olympics in that title game late like basically you that dude.

I do think Duncan was special in 02-03 but I think the Spurs team was just better overall that year. But the Lakers and Kobe beat Duncan in 01, 02, 04 and 08. So head to head Kobe was always game for him. And he usually showed out in those series. Loved his matchups vs Bowen though.

I think LeBron was making his case in 08-09 and 09-10 as the top dude but Kobe was the one who won it all those 2 years. So I can see Kobe having the edge at that time.

Well duh, in 04 Shaq was half way washed and Kobe had an off year cuz of his case. TD had a standard great year but Kobe/Shaq turned it up in the playoffs and took him out which was the usual outcome for TD vs the Lakers. That was easily KG's year tho, I didn't know anybody debated that tbh......2004 was a unique year.

:what: Shaq has no case for 2006. Shaq wasn't even the best player on his team. 06 was the first year that Kobe was universally considered the best. Anything other than that is revisionist history. The players, analysts, coaches etc all had Kobe as the best that year.
