In 2023, there is no path to the Republican Presidential nomination without playing the culture wars.
There was a time when the Sununu's, DeWine's, and Hogan's might be viable contenders for the nomination. But that time blew away in the wind around the same time Dems had a realistic chance of winning Florida in a Presidential.

In order to win the republican primary, candidates are forced to take on positions that are wildly unpopular in a general election. The crux of this is always the culture war. It's trannies and abortion this time, but think back to 2012...
They've been doing shyt like this for 20+ years and it's not working on average. So sure a normal, relatively non offensive candidate like Sununu could win a general election. But he'd get 2% of the vote in the republican primary so it's a moot point.
