Do black people from Texas even wear cow boy hats?
Older nikkas in small towns might.
But even if every nikka in Dallas n Houston wore cowboy hats that still won't make them nikkas not southern. Half by family is from st Louis area. They're literally nothing like people in Dallas. Unlike when I'm in Memphis, Dallas and Memphis nikkas damn near the same

Texas is considered the south because of one very important and factual event that took place....THE CIVIL WAR. Not what you think about the culture of Texas which you probably have not even experienced first hand. Ya'll have to know that cowboys are found all over the SOUTH. Even if you are looking at it from a purely geographical stand point one of the most southern points of land for United States is found in Texas.

Texas is the south but not deep South, like LA/MS/AL/GA/SC, etc. It's pretty easy to distinguish if you've spent any time in any of them. Those state's culture is pretty much the same though whereas Texas has it's own spin on southernness
I never seen a nikka wear a cowboy hat in the club. And like I said. nikkas in Dallas n Houston act nothing like nikkas in the Midwest. A cowboy hat is a Damn piece of attire. I didn't say we're not southern, just not deep south.
There's some difference in food and the culture of respect in the deep south that I don't see as strong here.
I used to live in Texas, people there consider it it's own country basically. Like North, East, South, West, & Texas.
Thing is, that state is big enough that it actually feels that way. Only place you'll go in this country where you drive for 10 hours in one direction and still be in the same state. Took me two and Half days to get from El Paso to Dallas. Versus Ohio where i can have an early Breakfast in Cincinnati and make it to Cleveland in time for Lunch.

I have seen cowboys in Memphis and Alabama, you gtfoh. Cowboys are not exclusive to Texas or the West.

Dallas is said to have a slight Midwestern air, but I didn't see that when I was there. Maybe in the white communities...
SA-Austin area has more of a slight SW vibe, but I've known a ton of blacks from here, including some fam of mine who live there. Blacks in this area are southern, no question about it...
Are they 100% southern? No, they are heavily influenced by Mexican and SW culture too, but to say Texas ain't the South....somewhere around like 75% of Texans live in the DFW, Houston, or SA-Austin areas. That area is more aligned to the South than anything. The area where the 25% lives is less southern but is less influential on Texas culture anyway...

Culturally? Anything east of Austin is Southern to a degree. Everything west of it is Southwest. Austin itself, from what I understand, is a cultural anomaly within its own state, so I'd draw the line there.

And my roommate was from Norfolk..he didn't have a southern drawl..it was subtle..kinda like how some chicagoans sound.
