St Louis is not southern.

Neither is Kansas City.

The institution of slavery determines the south. That’s the shared culture that people in Maryland share with folks all the way in Texas, and Missouri by way of the Missouri Compromise.

What Kansas City or St. Louis feels like is neither here nor there. NOVA doesn’t feel southern and neither does DC or Baltimore which are technically Coastal Mid Atlantic in culture. But all are still part of the south. My 4th Great Grandfather was born a slave in Georgetown DC. He escaped to New Beford, Massachusetts to gain his freedom. Georgetown University sold its own slaves to stay in operation. Georgetown doesn’t have any physical southern characteristics except that it was slave territory.

I didn’t realize how far El Paso was from Houston/Dallas till I randomly checked the distances between Texan cities.

I was like wtf.

But someone mentioned El Paso is close to Cali. Not really cause my app tells me that’s an 11 hour drive
To the Cali boarder El Paso is just as close or even closer to some parts as it is to Deep East Texas. El Paso Texas to Orange Texas(on the Louisiana boarder) has to be 12hrs. El Paso to the California boarder has to be like 10hrs.

The Upper South is VA, TN, KY, NC. Places that are southern but also have remnants of northern culture in some places.

The Deep South is Northern FL, SC, GA, AL, LA, MS, AR.

TX is it’s own thing. It’s part of the Deep South but it’s also influenced by the Southwest and Mexico.

I get what you’re saying but I go to DC all the time and have met countless of black folks - mostly new generation who actually refer to people below them as “southerners”.

Some even say they aren’t “southerners”. Same goes for some people I’ve met in Baltimore.

I imagine the same applies to St Louis. But I’ve never been there so I can’t speak on it.

DC blacks have a southern twang to me. DC black culture is southern. I can see if there was a debate with Baltimore. But DC is squarely southern.

I wonder how many cities would be in different regions if states didn’t exist.

For example Western New York (Buffalo and Rochester) are midwestern cultured cities.

this midwestern dude on my Facebook was making jokes about the east coast targeting Upstate Ny.

The idiot doesn’t realize Buffalo is only a 3 hour drive away from Cleveland, a 4 hour drive from Detroit, while being a 6-7 hour drive from NYC.

:mjlol:
Upstate NY is basically an extension of the rust belt. Parts of PA outside of Philly is basically rust belt states. They are extensions of the Midwest.

They do have a twang to me also. But I also know DC folks who dont have a twang. My homegirl whose an attorney in NYC for example but I wonder if it’s because she’s Haitian-American born in DC?

Maybe not cause I just realized her best friend who is AA with ancestors from Mississippi also has no twang in his voice.

:ohhh:

But I’ve met DC folks who feel like southerners are in a different region then them.

This can be a new school thing because I followed a DC page on my Facebook and this question came up.

Lots of people said southern and others said Northern. I noticed the ones who said Northern looked younger in age than the ones who said southern.

nikkas need to state where they from or where they lived before they answer this question. I don't want another thread of corny ass NY nikkas tryna tell southern people wassup. Anyway im born and raised in GA, done lived in TX SC MS and CO and fukked with Bama and Memphis hard.

Texas is obviously a southern state but the culture there is nothing like it is in the dirty. Its far more like Colorado or Kansas or OK than GA/AB/TN/SC/NC/MS/LA/FL and any nikka from one of these states can tell instantly.

I do gotta few texas homeboys who seem more like what I'm used to but I didn't meet a single nikka like that the 3 years I lived there.

The only thing that's Midwestern about Texas is that we share the same time zone as Chicago and shyt. And those who say that Texas isn't the deep South, have you been to either East Texas or South Texas before?

Breh yall nikkas be wearin cowboy hats and be dead ass serious. You aint like us my G. Its love tho.
