It seems like Northern Florida and Eastern Kentucky are as Southern as it gets, with the rest of the state being more questionable

Yes they follow a lot of southern culture. People just dont Claim South Florida because it’s not your typical white/black in the middle of the country southern turf.
Palm trees, and northeast and Canada retirees adds to that also.

2. I've lived in Texas for almost a decade, i have NEVER heard one person claim it to be the South. No one says, "We are southern" No one says "We are from the South"
This is shyt I heard almost daily in Tennessee and to a lesser extent even in North Carolina (which is far less southern than Tennessee)
Texas is Texas. Texans for the most part dont consider themselves part of the South so its strange that New Yorkers do.
Dallas and Austin don't feel near as southern as Durham.

To me, native residents having Southern accents is a clue that it is likely part of the South. El Paso probably doesn't have Southern accents, but the parts of Texas by Louisana and Arkansas sure do.
