Brooklyn keeps on taking it.
Shiiiiiiit, on Poplar you have multi million dollar homes surrounded by 9 foot brick walls because the legit hood is one fukking street over.

Germantown, one of if not the most affluent suburb of Memphis is surrounded by the hood on 3 sides!

Harbor Town, which overlooks the Mississippi River with picturesque views, has the police walking the park and kicking folks out after 8pm because junkies can WALK over from 3rd street hoods and fukk people up.

They shot up the cot damn Cheesecake Factory at the "high end" mall. They shot up Main Event. They shoot up I-40 and 240 every other week. You cant do shyt in Memphis to lower your odds of being shot.

I ain't gonna lie, I love Memphis and I low key wanna move back (I'm back in Atlanta now), but I can't sit here and lie like it ain't one of the most dangerous metro areas to live in. Like dude said you can't really even leave the hood unless you go up north into Tipton County. Tipton County is one red light country, I only go there because my wife is from there.

@Cave Savage this reminds me of Sea Gate and Coney Island in Brooklyn.

Then y'all need to clarify that with them nikkas, cause he said that shyt in a disrespectful way. I don't be in Houston too often so I don't get to see what's really up down there.
We don't need to clarify anything because nikkas talk in safe places. They ain't took no blocks and not running nothing. It's like they don't exist our here anymore. I never hear anything about them good or bad. We have so many other Louisiana people who are here that hate them nikkas. Most them nikkas burnt off to somewhere else.

It’s wild how that works out considering VA gave birth to the South...literally, culturally, etc.

People question it now IMO because the urban areas, particularly the parts that are associated with DC, skew most people’s perception. I don’t see rural VA ever not being Southern.
Rural VA especially Northern VA to me is a different world... Lots of different words being used that we never say in central VA...

Like saying pop not soda, and the fascination with Pepsi :scust: products lol.

Queens is middle class? :ohhh:

It's the size of a major city, it varies from poor to rich.

This is one of the realest posts here. When people internationally think of Texas, they think of cowboys, bull ranching, steak, George W. Bush and the mantra that "everything" is bigger in Texas. NYC, Cali and Texas are probably the most notable states/cities internationally when considering the USA.

Right. It's easily one of the most well known states in general, and its recognition is for its statewide qualities rather than New York which is only known for NYC.

I read that there's a saying in German involving Texas, indicating that something is crazy (or something like that).

I’m from NC and I don’t consider it the south. Southern influences but not the south. I also have this convo a lot so :yeshrug:

I worked with a couple of guys from North Carolina and they had some of the thickest Southern accents I've ever heard.

Right, you can't watch a video like that or this one and not think of it as being distinctly Southern. I went to North Carolina before and the vegetation, accents, food, etc. seemed solidly Southern to me.

One of the dudes from North Carolina I worked with is only 19 and his accent is VERY strong, meaning to me that the Southern culture is still going strong in at least the part of NC he's from.

Then tell me an area where it can't pop off.

First of all, it "can" pop off anywhere, but just in South Memphis, comparing to the really wild areas. Westwood isn't that bad, there are parts of Whitehaven that are middle class around Millbranch and Elvis Presley and not wild. Midtown along Poplar once you pass Parkway isn't bad at all, shyt there are parts of Parkway that are really subdued...

Memphis has some of the roughest hoods anywhere that I've seen, but I'm not about to sit here and mischaracterize the entire city as a ghetto, because it isn't. And if it was, we should be speaking better energy into the air, because that city is 63% black with one of the highest black poverty rates and failing blacks in a number of ways...

Hahahahahaha stop it...

Where in VA are you from specifically?

That video was filmed in Southeast Raleigh, where I currently live. There is absolutely zero question this is the South...

In most cities there are entire suburbs or areas where its 99% chill for miles. In Memphis there are portions of a street that are cool but immediately adjacent to that is an area you do not need to be walking around in at night or period. For example you said there were pockets around Millbranch and Elvis Presley that were not wild, well i dont know exactly how small that pocket is because i can guarantee you that Millbranch from Nonconnah (north) to Shelby Dr (South) near the Southland Mall is the fukk your shyt up zone. Big ups to Uncle Lou's Chicken on Millbranch though.

The area of Poplar you mentioned is less than 2 miles from Orange Mound. I dont know if you were in Memphis at the time but a couple years ago there was a story that made national news where kids were beating the shyt out of people with pumpkins at a Kroger, the Kroger is right there in that area.

And you said it all when you said "isnt that bad" because its bad, it just isnt all the way bad.

The so-called good areas are right next to First 48 neighborhoods.

Dallas have complete large safe zones right in the middle of the city.

Richmond VA, born and raised

Where at in Richmond, Southside?

There isn't much difference between Rich and NoVa. I used to live in Jackson Ward and hung out over in Carver, used to deal with Midlothian Village and Ashton Square on the Southside, hung out on Chamberlayne and Brookland Park in North Rich, etc. Went out and enjoyed the nightlife in Rich many times, I'm an advocate for Richmond...

The one thing I'll say is South Rich is a different vibe entirely from the rest of the city...

I also lived in Woodbridge in Northern Virginia, lived there before I became a Richmonder...

The only difference between NoVa and Central Virginia is that by virtue of being in DC's backyard, NoVa is busier and has access to the amenities of DC. Its population is more international as a result also, and more transient. Other than that, Richmond has equal or more cultural interchange, and more in common, with The District than anywhere in NoVa besides Alexandria and Arlington...

Richmond is southern, but it's nowhere near being a standard or typical southern city...
