the spurs tank wasn't intentional... d rob got hurt for the entire season and it naturally morphed into a tank job. tanking wasn't the strategy before the season started.

Don't be stupid. Robinson went down, and they spent the rest of the season shutting it down. Starters were taken out of close games, "injuries" kept players on the bench for extra games... they saw the season was lost, and they decided to pile them up for a top pick.

Which is exactly what the Knicks should do with this lost season.

dont remember the exact situation with KG and the celts but im sure it was something similar.

How are you gonna say "I don't remember, but I'm pretty sure I'm right" :what: This site, man.

Danny tanked, got high picks, drafted young players, flipped them for KG.

in fact if i remember correctly it was some shady stuff happening between GMs like Ainge got one of his good 'ol boys to take on a contract as a third team and that's what helped them get KG.

Nope.

no self respecting organization with healthy players is going to tank, period.

But I just named two of the most succesful and respected organizations in the league. And they both did it. So.... who cares about your perception of "respect"?

it's a year of misery for an increased chance to get an unproven player, which is not good business if you're an executive.

No, silly. It's a year of misery no matter what. Because this team sucks. If you can't see that this is a bad team... then you shouldn't be in a sports forum... because this ain't for you.

you kill team morale to go 10-72 and draft a greg oden or darko milichik... foh.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

The idiot brigade is in full effect right now. "You kill a team's morale" - yeah man, the Spurs haven't recovered from that tank job. LeBron is out here reviving the dumpster that is Cleveland twice, once through the draft, and once via free agency.

This whole idea of "loser mentality" is some childish shyt. There is ONE thing that consistently wins in sports. And it ain't "pride."

It's talent, you simple fukk. Talent wins. The Knicks don't have enough of it. They're best option to acquire talent is to have the highest pick possible. Having a high pick and a top talent coming in that way will make them more enticing to free agents, who may be deciding between multiple teams with cap space.

Grow up. Watch some games. And come to grip with the reality of this season. It will make the losses less frustrating. :knickphil: is already tanking.

What concerns me is, if we do the tank job and end up with the 10th pick in the draft

If you're tanking, then you shouldn't be finishing with he 10th worst record. You should finish with one of the 2-5 worst records. Which would put you in position for a picks between 1-6. Even if you don't get a top 3 pick... there is a lot of talent in those first 4-6 guys. Explosive wing athletes that can defend and drive, versatile big men that can bully in the post, or step out and hit shots.

But if you finish with the worst record in basketball, for example... the worst pick you could get is #4. Only the top 3 picks are in the lottery. Teams with the worst record in basketball almost always end up in the top 3.

Last year: Worst team - pick 2, 2nd worst team pick 3, 3rd worst team pick 4
2013: Worst team - pick 2, 2nd worst team pick 4, 3rd worst team pick 1
2012: Worst team - pick 2, 2nd worst team pick 3, 3rd worst team pick 4

Anyway... that's how it works. The knicks - if they try to win games... will probably end up with a pick around 10. Right now they're on pace for the 7th pick. Play these young guys, rest Melo... you could be in the bottom 3 with oklahoma set to move up with Russ/KD, and charlotte likely to get it together at some point and improve.

That means you're already in the bottom five.

Given the Knicks circumstances, the best things to happen to them, would be to net Towns this year and sign Horford in 2016.

So to understand we should give up on the season now? Is that what people are advocating ? :patrice:

If you're not winning a title...it's probably the best way to go. The Knicks desperately need a young star.

Unless Melo gets hurt/sits out this team won't lose enough games to tank enough to be worth it. While you're right, it's about the lack of talent that dictates when a team should tank, the Knicks are very much in the middle of the road with Amar'e, Melo, Calderon, and JR Smith as it's best offensive players.

The Knicks are losing games because of talent, but they're also losing games because they're trying to get acclimated to the system, the coach, and the new players we have. With all of those obstacles, the Knicks are only losing by a point differential of 4. Lakers, T-Wolves and (especially) the 76'ers are losing by more than double that, and one of those teams is actually trying to win games. I'd like to see if the Knicks can look like end of 2013-4 season by at least the end of next month before giving up completely on them. We finally got a key cog in Calderon who will be here next year. I expect Melo, and JR to be here next year, and Shumpert as well if he can get back to the good play he established for most of the month. That's enough of a base to build a great team around next year (hopefully with the addition of Marc Gasol and 1 more key signing).

Question: What if we had the number one pick in 2014? Anyone think we would be winning with Parker, Embiid, or Wiggins this year? They would have us winning?

How about in 2013: Anthony Bennett would have us winning the championship this year? or last? Nerlens Noel? Otto Porter? How about Cody Zeller?

2012: Anthony Davis? He's nice..but he has not put the Pelicans in serious contention. By the time he is 'there'...he will be a free agent and heading to a bigger market anyway.

So that brings us to 2015: Who is going to put us over the top in 2015-16...Mudiay? Towns? Okafor? They may pan out...but by the time they learn the game, they will be looking to go to NY or LA anyway.

Potential: latent qualities or abilities that may be developed and lead to future success or usefulness.

And Melo should throw away 2 years waiting on high school kids to save him?

Wait...so as a fan of a team...your belief is that if it looks like you won't win the title in November, that you should lose as many games as possible?

I'd rather my team be constructed to win through ALL means possible. Not just by losing games...that's just me though.

Please note: half of the tank supporters are not Knick fans.....

You think they are looking out for our best interests?
