i mean…working hard doesn’t really amount to anything in isolation unless you’re being paid a compensation that allows you to escape the rat race or manage the increasing cost of living.

If you want to be “successful”, you need to be a “laborer” with high W-2 potential or an owner of capital. Most people will be neither.

Most people are at an inherent disadvantage before they’re even born because the race to be successful starts right at conception - where you grow up, who your network is, where you go to school. Obviously there are case studies of people who beat the odds but it’s not the norm.

There are plenty of people that probably work “harder” than me but by circumstance won’t have my earning power. In many ways, I was fortunate due to a genetic lottery.

You have to be pretty deliberate about life because working hard in isolation doesn’t guarantee anything

It's not enough to work hard. You have to be strategic, plan, have skills and things other people don't have, have leverage and fight for what you believe is yours and have good luck & timing.

I created my own opportunity within the sports gambling space......one that literally didn't exist 10 years ago and was able to leverage it into a 6 figure paying job. I definitely had some luck and was fortunate in some regard but I knew forging my own path was better than busting my ass at retail or some random office job thinking my hard work would pay off.

I know people who make less than me who work way harder simply because they're not strategic, they don't have goals or plans nor do they fight for themselves. One of my old coworkers is brilliant but he won't build leverage for himself by taking interviews with other companies, building connections, networking and just expects his current job to give him a raise and pay him fairly because he does great work. I tell him all the time, network and put your name in the hat for other positions and use that as leverage to get a bigger back from your job or leave and he won't do it.

I know bartenders who make more than college graduates. You simply have to weigh all the factors in what you're doing and make a plan to put yourself in the best position to win.

It’s funny how everyone assumes something is wrong with people and not the system.

On its face, the claim is stupid; people don’t believe hard work will get them ahead in life. What they really mean is that regardless of how much work you invest, the system isn’t designed to reward everyone equally.

It’s a casino, not a bank.

On top of that, you’ve got a lot of people now attempting to make money in non traditional roles/jobs/careers. So many of those things are new, I don’t believe the people that attempt these new roles even really have a complete understanding of what’s going on and how things work from the ground up.

So, even the people you see that get success quickly, like how someone used that 10 year old YouTuber example, I don’t no one can really explain “why” it’s popular or why he managed to make as much money reviewing toys. But, the systems in place enabled him to make a lot of money from nothing but his opinion on things that won’t matter.

Working hard in itself doesn’t guarantee shyt. That’s why theres always stories about autistic people working 20, 30, 40 years at some dead end job like Burger King wiping tables. And people feel that way because people are working harder than ever for less than ever. “Working hard” today is much harder than “working hard” in the boomer era. “Working hard” in the Boomer era was working 40 hours a week and affording a new car every couple years, buying a house and supporting a family on one income. Working hard today is working 12+ hours a day 6-7 days a week and still not making it.

9-5 is almost extinct, it’s more like 9-9 6 days a week like China. 2-3 jobs. People working crazy hours and living in their car. Only cacs tell everybody to get a job, another job or just work harder because they desperately need to believe the world is a fair place to cover up the bulletproof white privilege and nepotism they’ve benefitted from their whole life. :mjpls:

  • To many youtubers are making more than doctors and having fun with it.
  • College cost to much and unless your gona make six figures after it, might as well work for company from the bottom up and hope to get promated on multiple levels
  • Folks working 60hours a week can hardly afford rent.
  • Putting 20% down is nearly impossible for most people with these home prices
  • Depending on where u live taxes alone on a home requires you to get a side hustle
  • Utility bills are out of control
  • Health insurance cost to much and have to battle getting coverage
  • Haven't even talked about the mental affects of knowing this is the best folks can do and it ant enough

The only thing that makes money is making money.

Problem is, sometime 30-40 years ago the system got broken and even a "decent" life for working moderately hard/smart got pulled a part.

You gotta be hardworking, cunning, damn near deceptive, around the right crowd and quite honestly lucky to breach the new standards for middle-class.

In capitalism there has to be WINNERS AND LOSERS at the SAME TIME.

If everyone was on the same level the price would GO DOWN.

It can NEVER as a result EVER BE FAIR.

It doesn’t

If the average salary for a black man is 46k and black woman 41k a year and both are not married especially in this day and age, u just going to struggle with the high cost of living and have to live within your means and if u have kids and not married it’s really going to be hard if you not living with a good wage
