I thought you were supposed to leave? What was that about?

Anywho.

Sad story. Imagine building your entire life around something only for you to feel betrayed by it at the end.

Pastors are under tons of stress.

only if you come to believe that theres no god and realize you have no other employable skills (which happens a lot) :pachaha:

Yall fall for Napoleon's trolling every time :heh:

And for the people saying religion caused this, how many people have deteriorating mental health because of world outlooks influenced by existentialism?

damn, i feel sorry for his wife and kids. but i also understand his mindset. this clearly has more to do with with his suffering from depression than it has to do with him feeling like god isn't hearing him
Yeah it's really sad to see someone being that depressed :noah:

Japan, but from the 989
I understand completely, but at the same time... if you struggle with depression and dont have a supportive family (emotionally) it can really tear you apart and eat you up inside where you question your importance to them, ya know?

For instance, i hardly ever talk to my sister cause she has her own life and family.. But sometimes I'll call her up to talk and just shoot the shyt and she NEVER returns my calls. but shell call my phone to try and get a hold of my mom. Or like 2 weeks ago I was at a football game for my nephew and I said hi to my other nephew.. hes 5. and he just looked at me and ignored me.. i immediately thought "why am I really that much of an unlikeable person even a 5 year old doesn't like me?" little stuff like that when you suffer from depression can really fukk with you and make you question yourself and your existence.

All that means is that you need to find something else other than family that makes you happy. If your family is being shytty towards you then you need to put them in timeout. Focus on you. Be selfish. Go on trips by yourself. Leave the country, find what makes you feel good. Don't let those feelings or how people respond to you shape how you see yourself. You are not made of Velcro, don't let those emotions or lack of emotions to others stick to you. Mediate, learn about different cultures, hell, practice other religions, find out who you are. Depression comes and goes but the view of the sunrise the next day gives you another chance to fight. If all else fails two things are great for Depression...they maybe silly sounding but.....1. Jack off. 2. Smoke some weed. I know they are your family but don't take them so seriously. Show them the same amount of respect they show you and just relax. Your existence is yours. Never let anyone shake your belief in your own existence.

to be honest.. i feel like existentialism has helped me a bit. when i was really "anti-religion" it kinda made me more depressed.. but when i discovered existentialism it gave me a bit of.... internal hope? existentialism to me is less about the denial of a diety, and more about recognizing.. "okay, we don't don't believe in god and externel purpose? so what? then what should we do?.. apply your own"

existentialism gives me hope by finding the beauty in the world and giving certain things my own purpose :yeshrug:

I agree but the term "existential crisis" exist for a reason. A lot of people can't handle that kind of belief system and need something like organized religion. At the end of the day, the individual has to be taken into account more than any external force.

facing existential crises IN REALITY isn't a substituted by asking a divine interlocutor to come into your life and change the course of the universe in your favor.

Yeah. If you think god exists...and you expect god to come to help you...and he doesn't (:duck::troll:) i'd say "god" was a KEY role in this. :pachaha:

i feel you.. i think those who don't believe in god can be more prone to depression than those who do, in my opinion. But i think Sarte admittedly touched on that topic, he said something like for those of us that don't believe in a diety or religious belief system it can be a really grim reality recognizing your "alone" in this world. i think the after part of that can be really challenging and a struggle... moving from that "alone" part is something I struggle with.

edit: and at times, Id be in denial if I didn't get the urge to want to pray or talk to some "imaginary being" to save me from that..its easier that way, you know? it's understandable.

We all do. Some just hide it better than others or use religion to keep it at bay.

Some people in here need Jesus apparently to be so offensively bitter about someone's death...:mjpls:
