The Land That Time Forgot
Prayers for the soul of that young man.

Deepest prayers and a huge salute to the parents for attempting to provide guidance
so that other youth are given a better pathway in life.

Too many folks are comfortable with making life an everyday obstacle course for black children.

Above the fray.
A lot of black parents don't get that their kids could have mental health and stability issues. My father and I were talking about something similar.

We know this guy having problems with his son (mid 20's now). The usual failing school, wrong crowd, drugs, girls, unemployed, etc.

My dad was like "I don't get why he's choosing this life. His family has done so much for him". I try to explain that it's mental, he can't help what he's doing. But my father just couldn't grasp what I was saying.

Extra love won't fix anything. Their head is wired differently and you need better approaches.
people can't hold your hand forever

and the stuff you listed doesn't sound like mental health issues, they sound like choices made

he can't help what he's doing?
man,please !

Parents can't say they tried if they didn't even try to move out of the hood :yeshrug:

Living in the hood doesn't = you have to be a nut. Millions of black people have lived in the hood and showed they had common sense. This wasn't some random killing or a dude who was on his way to harvard and got hit by a stray bullet in the park.

It doesn't but don't say you tried everything when you didn't :yeshrug:

I don't respect that.

Things like that stand out as red flags to me. When a kid is messed up, the first thing I will do is look at the parents so it doesn't sit right when their port of call is to demonstrate that they did their job when dealing with the demise of their son.

I'm left with the impression that their image is and was always more important than what their son was going through.

I agree. Praise in public and punish in private. No amount of finger wagging and "I told ya so's" at this juncture is necessary. Just say your public piece about the blessings your son was to you, even if they were minimal. All the "we did our part" sounds self serving, and only really highlight their obvious shortcomings as parents. They wanna whine in his obituary about his wayward value system, when as parents, the reality is you failed to instill a proper one as a foundation for the young man.

Why would some one choose this? Why would you choose to go down the wrong path?

I know his last minutes in his car when them bullets was coming in , homie was reflecting on what his parents was trying to get to him

I remember former gang members out here in la who got shot up and survived said all they thought about was the words their family was telling them about the streets when they was bleeding out

some change their ways but a few went right back in the streets just to die

Me and my siblings are the perfect example of that. My closest sibling in age went to jail in high school, got out bullshytted and is now homeless. I’m the complete opposite in every way. We grew up in the same household under the same rules. He was a follower, I wasn’t.

There's no cookie cutter way to raising a child. And in the spirit of just having general discourse, I want to preface my following statement by saying I'm not directly speaking on your upbringing. However, a lot of parents are simply lazy. Each child is different. Laying down one set of rules is NOT the proper way of raising and guiding INDIVIDUALS. Parents need to talk to and invest in their children, instead of being a slave to their own idea of what being a parent should be. That's what these parents seem like they are doing. In their mind, they were "good" parents and gave the child what he "needed", when in reality they didn't.

I don’t know how old everybody is on here but I’ll tell you from experience there’s no greater pain to have to go through than having a child go against everything you’ve worked hard to instill in them their entire lives. On top of that, as this thread shows people will blame you and say you didn’t do enough.

Some kids are just selfish hearted and want what they want.
Goes both ways though. Some parents are lazy and incompetent yet will try to portray themselves as otherwise

At the end of the day none of us really know the true story.

Talk about it. Nikkaz up here killing each other in the burbs their parents moved them to from the hood.

:snoop:

So you think a child growing up devaluing the life of another human being is based on their zip code? Either you're teaching it or allowing it. It doesn't matter where you get your mail delivered to.
