SAT is more about Test prep than education. Sort of like how a 4.0 gpa student can still fail their MCAT. Doesn't say anything about your education. Just how well you prepared for that particular test.

A realistically it takes money to be prepared properly for those type of exams. You can be the brightest student in your class but if your parents can't afford to enroll you in SAT prep courses online or with a tutor, you will be a disadvantage.

Yep. Many schools and parents don’t have access to the SAT test prep. I wanted to take the class in HS as a senior. I was ignored.
Back then you had three sections. I scored a 1000 with these two and I forget what my writing score was. But I wasn’t far from 1500.

If I had test prep I could’ve scored far higher.

One thing that's not really talked about is that black men and school aren't a good mix. We get trauma from coming up in school, think about all the times we get in trouble for nothing, all the unfairness year after year from teachers and principals, the ISS out of school suspensions etc So we trying to get that diploma and be done with it (keepin it real most us done and fed up with school by 7th grade), some of us suck it up and do another 4 and get a bachelors if we really suck it up and push through but the amount of schooling to get a MD is even more than that. Most cats have 0 aspirations to be a DR cause of that shyt alone.
and take IT shyt for instance cats learn that by doing 8 week bootcamps etc
Nobody ever talks about how hard it is to try to like school being a young black man and how going through it really hinders our future potential.

Black people have every right to not give a damn about their system,their brand of math,their brand of history,their science. But if you are going to live the life of the assimilateds. I do agree that standardized tests are not the end all be all and more schools are coming around to this since they are removing the standardized test scores from their application process.

I raised my lsat score into the 90th percentile with expensive training material most people can't afford. Standardized tests has very little to do with education and can be easily gamed with tactics. Of course the coli c00n brigade comes in and express their self hate.

listen, no matter the condition of the school you have to stay on your kids ass about education. what is the alternative? just sit back and say well the white man won't fix up the school so my kid falling behind is not my problem

sitting back blaming outside forces simply does not help. we have to control what we can control and that's our own effort and determination to break certain cycles. the effort is not just for the students it has to come from the parents. they will get their habits and attitude toward education from them. victimhood breeds laziness. it's always about what someone else needs to do for YOU to be successful. that's the wrong mind set.

I'm a strong believer in math and logic will increase critical thinking when it's paired with good English comp/lit.
I'm sure I can run a regression and compare that those who score higher on math/logix tend to earn more money and make better rational decisions than those who absolutely can't do basic arithmetic

Most people DO NOT take SAT prep courses that cost thousands of dollars. FOH.

My friends and I just studied. We had test prep books that we borrowed from the library.

These scores are atrocious and embarrassing. As a group, we should be ashamed. All the handwringing over “passport bros” and “high value men” and this is the result? Kids who can’t break 1,000 on the SAT?

Do you know how much shyt my kids would be in if they brought home these kinds of scores? They know better - they’d rather take the test over and over until they hit a score they know their parents will accept. We work too hard for them to act like they were raised by morons.

Cut the bullshyt. These scores are what they are because black adults are selfish, have kids they refuse to invest in, and mate with low IQ people. Period.

Yep. There are no excuses these days. The same youtube they watch drill videos with they could be using to watch FREE prep classes. Everyone got internet but instead of taking advantage of all the free sat prep test and info they would rather use it to watch tik toc videos.

If your intelligence as a Black person is wasted in the US due to cacs opposing you in all areas then what's the point of staying in this dump?

The first part of your post is spot on my problem with how a lot of black folks approach issues we have. It's indirectly giving all the power over our destiny to white people. Of course, these individuals wouldn't ever concede they are propping up the power of whites have over blacks because they are using denigrating (not wrong just being descriptive) language towards the white people all the same. They are probably not aware they are doing this through their arguments.

But the gist of the common argument boils down to "Black folks situation will always be stagnant or will continue to devolve because of white supremacy". Ok, not even arguing against that idea, but you'll notice that is the end all be all to their analysis of the outcomes for black folks and has been standard operating protocol of argument for decades now.

The issue is, there is no sense of taking control of our own destiny while acknowledging it will be harder because of the above. The logical conclusion of the above is that black people in America will continue to underperform and be in our current situation indefinitely with no way out because whites will never stop oppressing them. Basically, it's up to white people to decide to be merciful and stop doing something they have done since the birth of this country. Not happening ever. So, what now?

A few thoughts. I’m from Michigan and graduated in 2007. I wasn’t required to take the SAT.
Students study specifically for the SAT.
Preparation can take years to get a good score and to understand the strategy to get a high mark.
And you can take it multiple times.

I guess I’m just trying to say that the significance of the SAT is probably not pushed in black families the same way it is in Asian families.

Money wont motivate your kids to want to learn. Some kids are self motivated in that department. But their are far more who are completely unmotivated. There needs to be consequences and reprocussions when kids arent doing what they are supposed to. And that can really only come from parents actively following their kids education like they do Kanyes twitter account


Most parents just wait until the report card comes which isnt good enough,by then its too late. But most parents only have the expectation you graduate HS,maybe go to college.Unless they went to college,then the standard and floor becomes going to college.


So while I blame parents,its difficult to blame the ignorant. Some of us only know our experience and how are parents handled us. I have no problem directing my daughter to people I know are smarter than me. Sometimes you have to just tell your kids that you are stupid,but they wont be. Its the information age,where information is in the palm of your hand 24/7 when used wisely.

Also true. Asian parents set unrealistic expectations for their children and by doing so when they underachieving they are performing in the 90th percentile. Even when parents are fresh off the boat immigrants with less than a high school education they still expect their children to excel in their studies and become a respected profession at some point.

But that's the difference immigrants come here SEEKING opportunity so they have an inherent optimism about America and its opportunities. That's much different from a lot of black people who were born here. If all you know is struggle and all your parents know is struggle then you may not have an optimistic enough belief in your own abilities to achieve and set a high standard for yourself or your children. That's literally the first step to success is visualizing an outcome and setting standards to achieve it!
