Why are you mad/surprised at white people favoring white taste in music?
Black people played themselves by not having their 'own' Grammy and caring about it. Black people themselves killed black awards shows.

I get the premise but alot of times the black people that are nominated aren't high level superstars. Look at this year, CoCo Jones, Victoria Monet, Leon Thomas, etc. These are people that needed that recognition for their careers to hit another level.
Its unfortunate but that's the world we live in. If you want to have high levels of success, fame, money and celebrity, you have to play their game by their rules and coveting grammy wins is all apart of their game. It gets you into doors you couldn't otherwise get into. Same thing goes for white artist too.
Case & point, the year Mclemore won, I had never heard of him, so I went and downloaded his music and vomited. Think of the other thousands of people who did the same thing but actually enjoyed his music. It opened him up for another level of fame regardless if it was sustained or not.

They don't, which always make these arguments and complaints come off as phony and disingenous as least the voters even if it isn't one of their favorite genres. Besides music and awards are subjective anyways, so what might be deemed a classic to some wouldn't be to others like I told a poster a few days ago when he tried bringing up Beyonce albums he thought were classics.

I believe the reason why some black people seek validation and acceptance from theses award shows because who run award shows such as the Grammys, is because they are perceived as "good" white people. On the other hand, seeking validation from white Republicans/Conservatives is often frowned upon in the black community. This unspoken issue creates a desire to be acknowledged by a specific group of white people in order to feel accepted.
