Sughnen Yongo

"Sughnen Yongo is a Forbes Contributor and a keen storyteller who brings the often-unheard voices and stories of Black women to the forefront. With a Master’s degree in Journalism from New York University, her work is rooted in respect for the lived experiences of Black women, focusing on healthcare, childbirth, social justice and the challenges they face. Her writing has been featured in The Root, Pavement Pieces and Tufts Now, where she focused on stories that often go untold. Sughnen also covers pop culture, where she combines her passion for storytelling with a sharp eye for cultural trends. Follow Yongo for continued coverage of Black women’s experiences and pop culture."

"I have compiled a subjective, non-exhaustive list of 50 Black artists with incredible vocals, based on their cultural impact, commercial success, popularity and relevance. These women have redefined how we listen to, interpret and engage with music. They are popular, not only for their songs and the relevance of their artistry, but for the way they made us feel and remember certain times and places in our lives."

So this is her personal top 50 list. No reason to be angry, since she admits it holds only relevance to her for the most part.

So her list is subjective, accounts for commercial success, and cultural impact. It’s literally an opinion piece with no “research” behind it. She’s not a vocalist, vocal coach, nor asked true people of the industry for their opinions.
:camby:
Why would Forbes post a trash article like this. This should be in her blog.

kym mazelle is also good - but i can understand why she wouldn't make top 10 .. or even top 20.

but i like house music, so i'm biased.

and now that i have mentioned kym mazelle and soul II soul I have to add a personal favorite of mine

karen wheeler ... not top 20 either but better than beyonce.
