Yeah it's not about the music. No way is that Bob Dylan album better than OK Computer. They're just like,"Bob here's your flowers."

I feel people project Oscars standards on to the Grammys. With the Oscars even if what we felt was a better movie lost, often you can see why what won won. So when people watch the Grammys we go in that same standard but the Grammys is just a weird popularity contest and not about the music.
The Grammys themselves market themselves that way. My only issue is that you fell into the same trap of not rating Beyonce (I don’t either) so you ignore Jay’s point. He said by your own standards she’s the most awarded but even SHE can’t win album of the year. If she can’t win, then no contemporary black artist can. You can only be the best of the black people. It’s the same way Kanye said he never won an award against a white person. And the award show has no consistency. Who will actually remember that Harry Styles album 10 years from now? But I’m actually annoyed by how much Beyonce seems to care for this award. Jay wouldn’t have said that if she didn’t care. Dude didn’t even start going to it again until she made him.

Well argued and I actually agree fully.

This kinda proves my point about biases.
You laugh at Stevie Nicks and Janis Joplin, but others who enjoy those genres of music more than you would consider them amongst the greatest female artists.

That poster has been negged for having shyt taste in music. That woman can SANG. Many of these songs she wrote herself, and is the lone credit. Beyonce is going up against that. :whew:

Janis :wow:

Neg that man. He has shyt taste in music and deserves to be clowned. He hides behind race but race doesn't know music nor soul.

Tbh, I never expected acceptance from the organization and I have one. I lucked out.

I think artists just want to be recognized though, and that award is recognition regardless of who you’re talking to.

Sometimes, if you ignore something for too long, you’re gonna get push back. I just personally never really cared much for the situation in general because it just seems like it’s an celebration event designed for the already wealthy and those who want to join that circle.

But, I guess there are enough black artists that want to be at that platform. And for quite some time when you really reflect. Just like the examples, it’s been happening since the 70s that black artists have begun to get notice but it’s only been 11 black artists that have won the album of the year

Look at the nominations for 1998 AOTY.

They expose themselves as old. Bob Dylan won. Every music head that knows music knows that the best albums of 97 were Life After Death and OK Computer. They were the most innovative, historical, and most played albums of their genres.

Look at this fukking list. It's a popularity contest. I love The Beatles and Paul McCartney but what the fukk is he doing up there? None of Paul's solo albums are on that kind of tip and he made among the worst solo albums of the The Beatles. John and George best him by a mile.

I'm not saying racism doesn't have a place, but if y'all know anything about music (and I mean more than rap) you'll know just absolutely bonkers these nominations are regardless of
color. NO ONE talks about these albums except OK Computer in the year 2023.

Album of the Year

There was nothing Innovative about OK Computer
