Lemonade was trash, her Debut was much better
I depends on what you value in the music you listen to. Most of my fav songs from her come from her debut: Speechless, Rather Be With You, Me Myself & I so I'm with you. It's a fantastic album. But it kinda disappoints as an entire body of work.

Lemonade, however, was her 1st and only conceptual album. Every track related to the other to tell a story of her experiences. That is true artistry. I value storytelling, emotion and musicality in my music over everything else.

It's tough, because you have to factor in the percentage of popular and critically acclaimed black artists compared to white artists

Obviously the percentage isn't 1:10 so there should be more black artists. But considering what this country is demographically, and who runs the Grammys, you can't be surprised
As a percentage it makes sense.

It just the idea that T-Swift has more than all Black female artists ever....that's an issue. Like if she could sing like a white Whitney/Aretha hybrid, sure. But....she got more Album of the Years than MJ and Prince???

That's just politics.

:yeshrug:It’s easy for us to say “it’s just an award” when we’re not in those spaces. So I understand that these black musicians/actors want to be recognize. For their talent just like their white counterparts. An Oscar, Grammy, etc is a big achievement for them. But it’s embarrassing to openly say you’re boycotting because you didn’t get an award. Just don’t show up or perform at these awards shows. And they should get the message we already know what time these people are on.

I don't think people really understand the chokehold Mariah had on music in the 90s:

Her 1st 3 albums had 7 #1 hits on the Billboard 100. That's incomprehensible. The fact that her albums were doing crazy numbers on the charts and she never won the award the years she was nominated is insanity.
Mariah has a black father. They weren't ready to send that image out there. She made the money as did the other passed over acts so it's whatever.

You're shocked, these are the same people who will tell you that Beatles, Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan are the greatest artist/musicians ever :pachaha:
Beatles were mediocre hacks. Put on because they had british accents. Janis Joplin was a hack too but to her credit she never denied it. White people love nothing more than a white person who sounds 'black'. They will buy that album quick. Elvis was a mega hack I personally have zero respect for professionally.

Dre knew this snatching up Em when everybody else wouldn't touch him. Ironically because he was a white rapper. Life is strange!

Not saying Em is a hack because he isn't. But facts are facts. Ultimately white people are a very insecure group. That will play out in multiple ways. These awards shows are one of them. Probably best not to pay it a whole lot of attention.

Why do the black celebs covet that award so much? Who cares about this white man trophy. Are you rich? Are you widely beloved? What you also need the white man pointing at you and saying wow also?

If black people from around the world shunned the Grammy’s and did their own thing….
