As someone who has attended midnight screenings for most MCU movies (as well as DC and other kinds of blockbusters in general), the nerd folk eat that shyt up. And it isn't even that different from other blockbusters, including DC's latest.
Speaking of, how have people been enjoying the feminism jokes in any of the Wonder Woman trailers?
Even Nolan's highly praised Batman had weak "humor" in it like that hockey pads/pants joke from TDK, or the "It's a tank" joke from Batman Begins, or TDKR's entire plot just being a joke in general.
B-b-b-but, what about raising the bar for quality? Mahfukkas, all these companies only care about raising their bank accounts. They ain't spending 200 million plus another 100 million on marketing to win any goddamn Oscars. If a movie happens to come out good, everybody rejoices. When they suck, studios just look at the numbers and either shrug or scratch their head.

Its very RARE that youll see of any of these Marvel comics and not find at least ONE joke in any of these books panels
Even the most catastrophic event will have some character joking
But i guess because these are real life flesh and blood people playing these characters its gotta be all seriousness goings on

Some of the quips work, some of them don't. On one hand, yeah it can pull you out of the scene but in others, it works perfectly. As long as its within character then most of the time it doesn't bug me but like someone said (I refuse to give him props
) all of these flicks have humor in them, and all of them have some clunkers. Every. Single. One of them, Marvel, DC, Vertigo, whatever. Even Deadpool has some jokes that land flat but because the other ones hit, the ones that land don't seem as impactful. There are scenes that work perfectly because of the humor, like most anything in Guardians (most not all) and some scenes that for me would've worked better without it, like the airport scene in Civil War but even then, the humor coming from ant man and spider man was perfect because they don't have the weight of this conflict on their shoulders and all that history so for that alone, they would bring some levity to a very serious situation. But again, it's preference. Horror and comedy are the two hardest things to do in film or writing so what works for one may not work for someone else

Yeah
I do like Joss a lot and he's one of my favorite writers but that's definitely my one criticism of his style. Everyone has the same voice, makes the same jokes, and even the same observations. I think the reason Buffy was able to differentiate itself a bit is because it was a tv show and got a chance to breathe and have nuance and other factors involved with the characters. With Batgirl, I know he'll write her strong and perfectly but I keep wondering what he's going to do with everyone else. I don't want Gordon (if he's in it) sounding like his daughterSo just picking 5 random Avengers. Bruce, Natasha, Steve, Tony, Vision.Yeah
