ehh. this was too easy. no disrespect to gangstarr but they gotta go.
and i hate to see it go but I could live life without a premo beat. besides, every group in the poll has a legendary producer. hell, NWA had dre but also 2 other really good producers.

as for the domino effect, we would lose the least if mobb deep never came out, but I don't know why people act like it was all about prodigy, cuz Havoc was the real backbone of the group. if havoc never existed, prodigy would've been another chi ali.

so yea, gangstarr gotta go.:camby:

I voted the same, but would Wu and Mobb Deep even exist if not for NWA?

theres no correlation between those groups and NWA.

NWA didn't invent street rap.

:wow: The Wash is a legendary movie. It'd be tough to give it up, but I gotta do it.

that movie would still exist without dre & snoop being in it.

EDIT: well who put DJ Pooh on?
double EDIT: even if DJ Pooh isn't around to direct, its still a remake.

reading thread title, I was going to immediately go with Wu because I thought it was a preference. not that I wasnt a Wu head, but I was in HS when NWA and the Posse came out and Straight Outta Compton was one of the first Hip Hop cd's I ever bought, if not the first because CDs were relatively new at the time. I think I may have paid about $20 for that shyt. Mobb and Gangstarr are two of my most played artists ever. Gangstarr first 5, and 4 of those were classics. Mobb first 4 and Juvenile Hell was slept on.

now, after reading thread premise I can omit any of them. all of their contributions too great. like the other poster said...Hip Hop w/o Preemo :what: Gangstarr was very instrumental in the growth of hip hop as far as underground rappers being able to sell records....they are just as important in that regard as EPMD. and Mobb birthed a sound and without them, there is no CNN who produced their own classic with War Report.

NWA gets too much credit.
they didn't invent the street rap that most east coasters subscribe too.
all that chit traces back to schooly d. west philly PSK.

ice t, NWA, etc put their own spin to it out west.
and hell, NWA aint even the first to do that. it was ice t.

didn't biggie want Capone in junior mafia???

plus CNN was trag's group.

meaning no disrespect, but you think that has to do with him passing and people revising history?

Did you and your crew listen to gangstarr's songs and picture Rakim or other great rappers DESTROYING those beats? We did.

a lot of older cats view Guru as a top 10-20 rapper.

Capone was down with JM, not CNN. Had he signed with them, he probably wouldve been on some slightly different shyt, more geared towards radio. Capone was actually a part of the "Mobb" he is on their album cover and mentioned in their early songs. Trag executive produced CNN who was heavily influenced by Mobb. Nore REPEATEDLY says if there was no Mobb Deep there would be no CNN. They were almost clones when it came to content/concept. you can go as far as to say Trag molded them in the form of Mobb.

absolutely not. I grew up in that era. I had Schooly albums. they didnt invent it, but NWA took shyt to another level. the storytelling, the charisma of Eazy, the production. they were so big and probably would be the consensus choice for first industry plants. they really took that gansta shyt some place else in terms of sales and popularity. Exponentially better than Ice T and introduced you to D.O.C. who was an unofficial member and influenced Above the Law. no need to even speak on Dre's or Cube's individual achievements.

Uncle Jamm’s Army put Pooh on as a dj but he learned how to produce from Dre
