Ohio and Florida: Lost causes for Dems, or are they still winnable?

Are Florida/Ohio still winnable for Dems?

  • Democrats can still be competitive in both states

    Votes: 0 0.0%

:francis:

better start putting money towards securing AZ, NV
theres a lotta blue state transplants (like me :jawalrus:) since covid, that the dems definitely should make these two a priority

looks like our current governor in NV mask mandated himself outta the job, exactly like i said he would. but the fact we still put cortez masto back in the seat is telling. shes an incredibly uninspiring senator :dead:

Statewide. No dice.

Still go in house races.

I said before Florida probably got redder as FDR democrats died in the early 2000s. So now we have Reagan retirees. So assuming they will die out as a majority in 2040ish. Whatever isn’t underwater will probably be competitive again.
I doubt it will be the political powerhouse state though once climate change insurance drives most people out

I'll just say fl dems need to look at the john fettermans of fl and oh. They are there but the dems rather run right wing dems. Look at the gay progressive breh that won in fl for example

A "John Fetterman of FL or OH" wouldn't help

OH is like PA ... but without as big of an urban/metro population to overcome the rural conservative vote. The difference between OH and PA is more less the difference between Cleveland and Philly. The metro population of the latter is twice as big.

Florida is just uniquely fukked up. It combines all kinds of bad elements:

- Typical Southern Whites

- The most :mjpls: and "white" hispanic/latino population

- A bunch of racist northeastern transplants who went down to Florida partly because they are racist

Ohio...is an odd duck. Before Biden was the nominee, the DNC wanted Sherrod Brown to run for president. He didn't run because of his wife (she didn't want him to) - she's a journalist and college professor. Any democrat who wants to have a chance to win in the state of Ohio HAS to make Columbus purple at minimum. Cleveland is a democratic stronghold, Toledo as well. Cincinnati almost always goes Republican (with a few exceptions like the most recent upset, or when they elected Jerry Springer for mayor :dead:). Columbus is the one area that's a toss up - you've got a ton of banks and insurance companies that have a significant presence there, as well as a good sized manufacturing base (Honda, Intel, Abbott Labs), and a major university there. Outside of Columbus, it's completely surrounded by Republican counties except for Athens. That's why Ohio is so tough for democratic candidates to succeed - you HAVE to know where to spend your money and know where to go. Message matters a LOT there.

Brown is probably the only Dem who can win in OH

And it helps the GOP puts up weak candidates

There aren't. Thinking like that is why shyt is so fractured.

I didn't say just toss money at Mississippi democratic campaigns or Southern California republican campaigns and think that's gonna do it. You have to actually give people something to vote for and give results. Our politics are designed to not do shyt, and thus we have a lot of "they look the part for this area" candidates.

He sways in the wind daily. One day when candidates lose he says they are “dorks that don’t talk about real issues” but then when a guy like Charles booker loses in Kentucky when asked the reason he has been ducking giving an answer. I already know it though, the usual “dems didn’t support him enough” or “he didn’t get enough money”.

Some of these people don’t give a F what you are talking about or how you say it. They aren’t voting for you. Kentucky again is the prime example, they voted to save abortion but turn around and voted for politicians who want to get rid of it :dead:

You really can’t believe this.

Doug Jones in Alabama is textbook case of why your 100% wrong. He was everything you claim would win but lost his seat to a football coach.

The truth is our politics is a strange case of not only getting people to vote, but simultaneously driving down the votes of the opposite side it seems. I have no idea if it always was this way but it seems like the more candidates( on both sides) have be for and against certain issues with no wiggle room, the mythological crossover voter has become rare.
