David Simon shows don't make bank for HBO but their good for critical acclaim.

Remember The Wire technically got canceled after season 3



If you notice the last few shows David Simon has been involved in except Treme have been 6 episodes no way they'd ever realistically fund multiple seasons.

Sadly the audience for non-Law and Order style procedurals is small.

These David Simon police shows tend to be denser and slower, with no good guy getting the criminal happy endings, they have an audience but it's relatively small.

HBO won because post off air I’m sure it’s one of their top 5 most viewed shows. Executives be worried too much about current ratings

I was day dreaming about shooting that dude in the face after watching the episode. Like it's one thing mistreating actual criminals, (which is still wrong) but this dude is just fukking with regular good people like a sadist. Is he based on a real person too?

1st episode had me confused as hell and i couldn't really tell what was going on. This does have potential tho....the opening was fire....hopefully the next few episodes will be more coherent.

shyt Berenthal has time to do multiple seasons as well. I think all these actors big and small don't mind having a hit show to film four months out of the year along with their other projects. That's easy millions plus they raise-negotiate bigger salaries after a new season is added and announced.

and being a "good cop" that rats out bad ones can ruin your career
