Isn’t this disingenuous?

The student loan pause was one of numerous measures that were taken during the start of the pandemic. Every thing that was halted has resumed except for student loans.

Biden has been consistent on wanting student loan reform through legislation and he’s never said he wasn’t going to do the 10k forgiveness. He also has made it much easier to have your student loans forgiven if you are a government or non profit worker
Biden has no interest in student loan debt forgiveness and has even made it harder to get loans forgiven. It's not disingenuous, it's Biden's history. He said a bunch of shyt to get elected.

White House has a memo from Department of Education they don't want out there that shows they have the executive authority to forgive debt using the same powers they're currently using to pause payments and forgiving debt through programs like PSLF.

Biden is a fool if he doesnt seriously address this, this was supposed to be an easy slam dunk issue to help his poll numbers and awaken the progressive wing behind him cause the boogeyman Trump is gone and I don't think they are gonna turn out for this. Throw them a damn bone Joe.

I'm not even talking entire debt cancellation or the extended pause of payment.

He simply could have forgiven 50 percent of all federal student loan debt. Now it looks like he is doing the bare minimum on an issue the progressive wing really cares about.

You couple this with the inflation and the other issues going on in the country. Democrats are gonna get massacred next November in the midterms.

These first two years were his opportunity to get something done, he still has time but he is really dropping the ball for 2024 if he doesn't really touch this issue.

Let the Republicans take over both chambers of congress without some effort to get significant legislation backed student loan debt relief or even an attempted broad executive order to touch all borrowers.

Come on now, he changed the rules so that it’s easier than ever to get your loans forgiven if you are a government or non profit worker and even expanded the definition of non profit

he also cancelled loans of people that went to for profit colleges

he also cancelled loans for people who are disabled

No thread on Biden canceling student loans for First responders and government workers?

Hes cancelled 70 billion loans so far, that’s not included the 120 billion projected from the change in PSFL

Source?

I would argue everything I wrote in this post shows that student loans can be cancelled through executive action

what does that mean for kids currently in high school? We really need reform on this issue but people don’t want to look at it objectively.

kids in high school now want get the gift of 2 years with repayment or interest accruing.

I am talking about making it harder to file for bankruptcy due to student loans and other debt. He backed that bill in 2005.
How Biden helped create the student debt problem he now promises to fix
Wait, do people really think student loans should be discharged through bankruptcy? :mindblown:

These are big, UNSECURED loans given to people with no income and no credit history.

If you could file bankruptcy everyone would graduate, claim they have no income and go debt free

This is why we need reform

The obvious play would have been to defer until Feb 2024. Take it off the table completely and make it a campaign issue against republicans. Instead they’re just…giving up. It’s wild. I’d understand it if he was riding high and cruising towards election victories but he’s in a ditch right now. Bad. Surely you’d want something to improve your standing right. Nope…

How else would a majority of people afford higher education?

the issue is the interest, degrees not being costed based on ROI and the unfavorable payoff options

If you fix those 3 things I feel most people would be ok
We make public colleges tuition free through our tax dollars like we do K-12 and like we were about to do with pre-k until about two months ago.

Biden doesn't care

Same thing with sunsetting the unemployment benefits and eviction moratorium. He is a conservative.

I’m seriously starting to question if he’s running for re-election. Like I don’t know anyone across the Democrat side that thinks that this is good politics.
