They were talking about doing his backstory. Not sure how I feel about that
The time period is probably within a few years of the start of Ep 1, so I can't imagine too much of a origin story.
It's not great, but probably still should watch it. Youre gonna spend 150+ hours watching the series. What's another 90 minutes.

Huh. Well, in the first issue - Qui-Gon is in it and Obi-wan is his apprentice, and not looking too much younger than he was in Ep1. Seems odd it would take Yoda 800+ years to reach Master
