In the LCD world it goes like this:
1. Flagship TV - probably a 9 series model number. has all the bells and whistles and almost always has full array local dimming which means the backlight is evenly lit across the whole TV from an array behind it. ridiculously expensive in PC terms this is a Titan X.

2. 2nd tier - also usually a 9 series but could be an 8. typically sometimes an has most of what the flagship has except the backlight is edgelit not full array. very expensive. In PC terms this is a GTX1080.

3. 3rd tier - probably an 8 series has some minor compromises on the tech from the above but is usually still pretty close. also edgelit. With most TV manufactures 10 bit panels stop after this model. manageable price but on the higher side. usually best bang for your buck. In PC terms this is a GTX1070.

Once you dip below that 3rd tier all the high end features are usually gone. This is where you get manufactures cutting corners and pulling BS and outright lying to consumers.

Samsung
1 = KS9800
2 = KS9500
3 = KS8000/8500

Sony
1 = ZD9
2 = X94D
3 = X93D

LG (With LG no LCD has FALD and you lose 10 bit after #2)
1 = G/E/C/B 6 OLED
2 = UH95
3 = UH85

Vizio (If you not rocking a P series you aren't 10 bit all their TV series above D have FALD though)
1. 2016 P series
2. M series
3. E series
:ohhh::salute:

Tier 1 level posting breh.

I've been debating a pro for about 3 weeks now. Thank god I went on vacation.

During that time I decided to wait until I got back. Seen about 5 different threads worth of nikkas buying the wrong tvs, being duped, and then just sadly accepting the loss

I damn near spent 1k on a tv that wasn't even on this list. I'd have been pissed the fukk off

Trying to save others the trouble of wasting money for a fake me out tv
i spent 1k in uk currency which is more than 1k in usd, on a '4k tv' not on the list, not to fussed, i just put them in the guest rooms.

I have the 930d. I love it.

I just wish one setting worked for all things. When hdr gaming I have to adjust from my hdr gaming settings to regular gaming settings. O what a bother to constantly keeping things looking elite and epic.

Trying to find the best codor calibration program. This thx shyt won't allow you to chrome cast and change settings at the same time.

Don't like alot of these custom settings on reputable sites. Lookin all dim and dark. I need gaming settings and fukk gaming mode. I'll take input lag

Ive been going to Perfect 4K HDR UHD Test: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLY-L2gspZezCrzx7A6mxh1HD78RDxk4V_

Through the ps4 pro

And adjusting while watching the play list you can pause it and mess around with settings too.

It's not including more cause they don't fit the criteria. Check rtings.com list for more explanation and results.

But no... there are not more tvs on this list and that's why I made the thread

You getting an upgrade to HDR is not the same as having it built in from scratch. They doing some software upgrades but the hardware tech on your tv hasn't changed or improved

The whole point of a firmware update is to add features that your hardware can ALREADY support.

A recent example is Sony updating the standard PS4 to output HDR.

I went through the tvs (on Rtings) and all but 1 (vizio M) thats marked for HDR10 have 10bit color depth. So 25 models are hitting that benchmark to date. Compared to the 14 you posted.

Just like your post said, peak brightness, black level, color gamut, etc will effect the quality of HDR displayed but the person did NOT take that into consideration when making the list.

Again HDR is just a feature that enhances the colors that your set can already display.

The only 4k tvs on rtings from 2016 that dont hit the standard posted in the OP are the Vizio E series, 2 TCLs and a Sharp (these first 4 are not marked for hdr10) and the Vizio M.

To be listed, the television must support the HDR10 standard at the time of writing

I got the settings game mastered. I gotta custom setting and hdr setting that can't be fukked with.

Holla if you want nut to come OUT out eyeballs lookin at your tv.

Pause

Still can't believe I copped that 65" M series Vizio for under $600. Picture is awesome especially for the price.

I dont know what all that is for:yeshrug:

I was pointing out that by the specs in the op

Damn near every 2016 set meets this standard. They just arent on the list because they hadnt been updated when the article was written.

Tldr: Article is old and should include more tvs
No you said most 10 bit panels are actually 8 bit with dithering. That's not true. All 10 bit panels on the market are legit 10 bit. Most TVs don't have 10 bit panels though and most TVs that say they have HDR actually have 8 bit panels and use dithering. 10 bit panels are reserved for upper tier TVs.

Mine gets here tommorow. Very excited to hook this up to my Epson 6040

Gonna be an awesome weekend of Titan Fall 2 and Gears 4 for me on my pseudo4K projector....:banderas:

Nice projector. I may go that route for the next time I'm feeling like I need a larger screen. As it is the media players now (disc & streaming) all have smart apps, and most of the digital tuners are becoming useless unless you get the HDTV antennas, all that's left is a screen. With the projectors getting up to 120", that may be the way to go.

Watching The Revenant 4K yesterday, :noah:

I got the KS8000 too, it's basically the hottest tv that people can actually afford right now, and the Revenant was the first movie that really had me like :whoo:
The lush green when that bear was fukking him up :ahh:
The fire when they were camping :ahh:
The contrast between the snow and the black levels :ahh:

Which soundbar you got, I don't have one. Best Buy had a samsung one on sale for $150 on black friday but my wife talked me out of it cause i didn't do my research beforehand (went there to get 2k17)
