So, I haven't watched any of the Star Wars Series (I mean ANY of them) for reasons, I'll get to in a second, but decided to jump in on this because Obi-Wan is one of my favorite characters.
I think I should've stayed gone, brehs.
First off, I feel bad for Moses Ingram. I think she probably could be a decent actor, but so far, she's got shyt to work with, because Reva is eating some shytty and rushed writing. We blew through what could be her justified betrayal of the Grand Inquisitor in two episodes, the character just comes off as unlikeable.
Obi-Wan was speaking for the audience when he asked Leia how old she was. Ain't no way that little girl is 10.
Which leads to a bigger problem with so much Star Wars content being set between trilogies. There's next to no tension, because so much of the future is already set for a lot of these characters. Basing at least the first act/half around Leia getting kidnapped doesn't mean much of anything, because we know she isn't going to die. It's basically just two to two and a half hours of setup for why Leia would have a enough trust in Obi-Wan to send the droids his way in A New Hope. It also means they're going to have to add extra convoluted layers of story to explain why Obi-Wan and Vader don't kill each other in the fight it seems this show will lead to, and why Vader was shook in A New Hope as if it was the first time he'd seen him in a good 20 years.
The worst part is that so far, this doesn't feel like an actual story about an unexplained period of time for a crucial character, as much as it does Disney actively workshopping new spinoff material right in front of you.
It's like you can hear Kathleen Kennedy saying "Can I interest you in the redemption story of a fake Jedi street hustler with a good heart? You like Kumail Nanjiani, right? How about the tragic backstory of one of Vader's most ambitious would be apprentices? Or maybe political intrigue is your thing? How'd you like to see the struggle of the Organa family to govern a planet, foster a growing Rebellion, and guide Leia to a destiny they can never tell her about, but she may already know?"
