can someone explain to me how in the world one subpar track could question the greatness of a album ? :what: it's like blueprint don't have hola hovito, all eyes on me don't have whatz your phone number. there's a lot of joint I don't listen/like on classic albums

it's like sayin illmatic aint a classic because of one time 4 your mind (which is a good track, just not on the level of the others). and nas is coming catch heat only because dre produced it and people were disapointed. but the beat ain't nothin particularly horrible about it and nas spit fire on it which makes it an average track, no more no less.

Only Nas got held to weird ass high standards, nikkaz need to stop listen to officer vlad :beli:

don;t think the album is that great, the rapping is out of this world the beats aren't all that to me

just using nas is coming because how laughable parts of the track are, particularly the ''dialogue'' between the two

and there's no need to be disrespectful with the vlad stuff, we can have opinoins of our own, nas rapping on some ''experimental'' beats is nothing unheard of, vlad didn't invent it in the last few years, nas raps have been always pretty much on point, his choice of instrumentals less

what experimental beats ? would you say that nas spit on more "experimental" beats than let's say jay z vol 1 2 and 3 ? because a lot of joints on these 3 albums are pretty weird and aged badly, (money cash hoes, the city is mine or jigga that nikka for example) but no one complain about jay beat selection weirdly.

Nas just got a reputation that sticked to him for no valuable reason. he did some questionable joint for sure, but it's not canibus first album level beats. matter of fact I can argue nas is one of the rappers that got some of the most greatest beats in hip hop. just go to a nas show and listen to the catalogue. most rapper don't have 1/3 of that in terms of productions alone

imo some of the beats take away from his discography, would mention for example most of the second part of I Am..., people don't complain about jayz's beats because he's more versatile, nas couldn't produce the same ''hits'' with tim and the neptunes, the same way jigga couldn't do a 2nd childhood type of track

if anybody tells me that the beats for i wanna talk to you, dr knockboot, life is what you make it, big things, kissing and money's my itch are anything memorable i simply am of different opinion

now the production on lost tapes for example is impeccable but it's not an album in the classic sense, albeit A CLASSIC

Man we all know illmatic is classic and stood the test of time..... but damnit man I'm illmatic'ed out :wow: just want a cohesive Nas project especially after we waited 6 yrs for that Nasir 'album ':francis:

Hopefully we get something new before the end of the year. The sooner the better.

One of the many great things about Illmatic - and something that really separates it from IWW - is that every track feels different, not just production wise but even lyrically. All types of emotions are run through, from fear to regrets to introspective thinking etc. It's all a snapshot of living in Queens/NY.

IWW feels very similar. Lyrically he goes overboard with the mafioso stuff, leaving little room for anything else outside of Black Girl Lost and If I Ruled The World. Yea there are gems and lifestyle mantras thrown in there, similar to Illmatic, but it just doesn't feel like you're getting a glimpse of what Nas is best at: observing his environment and stepping outside of himself to describe the visuals and emotion of life.

I think a better exec producer would have recognized this and made changes to the album. Instead of just nonstop mafioso shyt, a more diverse track list/focus would have worked wonders. It's still a dope album obviously.

Check out "Born to Use Mics Reading Nas Illmatic" I recommend it for Nas fans.
Different writers and academics write about their experience with a certain Illmatic song etc.
