One of the many great things about Illmatic - and something that really separates it from IWW - is that every track feels different, not just production wise but even lyrically. All types of emotions are run through, from fear to regrets to introspective thinking etc. It's all a snapshot of living in Queens/NY.

IWW feels very similar. Lyrically he goes overboard with the Street stuff, leaving little room for anything else outside of Black Girl Lost and If I Ruled The World. Yea there are gems and lifestyle mantras thrown in there, similar to Illmatic, but it just doesn't feel like you're getting a glimpse of what Nas is best at: observing his environment and stepping outside of himself to describe the visuals and emotion of life.

I think a better exec producer would have recognized this and made changes to the album. Instead of just nonstop mafioso shyt, a more diverse track list/focus would have worked wonders. It's still a dope album obviously.

Does this fix the issue guys?

I'd rather make money off my work than leave it to the label that owns the masters.

Exactly, I’m glad he’s able to eat off of it, lot of artists, particularly nowadays are in bad 360 deals. Yes I want new music too but let the dude eat, he’s got a lot of child support amongst other expenses...y’all demanding as heck lol.

Well I don't know about the child support part, but we are in agreement.

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
I’ll give u The Set Up. Still say it’s stretch tho. Street Dreams aint really all that flamboyant. Just some fly bragging street shyt. There’s maybe 3 songs on IWW that are flat out mafioso themed. Affirmative Action, The Set Up(maybe), and Nas Is Coming.

So an album with.
The Message
I Gave You Power
Street Dreams
Watch Dem nikkaz
Take It In Blood
Black Girl Lost
Suspect
Shootouts
Live nikka Rap
Silent Murder
If I Ruled The World

Is mostly mafioso rap with no break up? See. I think nikkas got it confused. Everytime he says the word “Esco” or raps about street shyt the whole song turns mafioso to them. When in reality. Looking at the album. I see the issue. Which is opposite of this “too commercial” shyt nikkas be sayin. nikkas actually feel it’s too street and dont even realize it. Alot of the album is filled with street tales. Gun bustin, hustlin, etc. The album is actually pretty dark thematically. They thought he wasnt being the same cat that was on Illmatic. Not realizing that IWW is just as much of Nas’ personality as Illmatic was. Another big issue people have with it. Is regardless of how the music SOUNDS. They were mad he used The Trackmasters. Alot of the producers on Illmatic felt that they should've been a part of IWW. U could kinda tell Large Pro still pretty salty bout that. Pete Rock def was. And that shyt trickled down to the critics. What I find weird is nikkas literally watched a whole year and a half go by with him doing all kinda features leading up to this album. Eye For An Eye, Mo Money Mo Murder, Fast Life, Verbal Intercourse, etc etc. Praised all that shyt. Then acted surprised that he had some of the same themes on his album. Like he just came outta nowhere wit that shyt. The album had alot of creative storytelling. Alot of street shyt. He played with song types he didnt touch on Illmatic, like I Gave You Power and Black Girl Lost etc. It was just different from Illmatic. Which in my opinion. Makes it such a great album and makes Nas such a great artist. Every single album of his sounds completely different from the last.
