I’m one of the few people cool with not recasting without context.


But what THEY BETTER NOT DO, is make this the last stand alone movie and simply make Wakandans cameos to other movies.


The think about Black Panther is you don’t need Wakanda to make a full feature film. But if they don’t eventually recast in a different incarnation or crown a new BP, then they can’t do another movie.

Good debate and I'm siding with the lady.
And her point about it not being 6 months people are still mourning was poignant to me. Recalling the filming of BP and the press tour promoting the movie the cast seemed extremely close, like it ranks high on that scale compared to any movie I actually paid attention to the filming and press tour to. More than the audience is collaborators probably just cannot move on so quickly. There's a human element to this decision, Coogler, the cast, etc. just are still mourning.

I think everyone is cool with BP 2 being a "World of Wakanda" type of flick that doesn't have T'Challa in it but what most of the pro-recast people take issue with is the idea that the character of T'Challa has to die with Chadwick Boseman as some sort of honorific to the man's memory.
Disney shouldn't re-cast for BP 2 but they definitely should start the search for the new actor who will be playing T'Challa in BP 3 when the time comes.

Got damn this was supposed to be the MCU's The Dark Knight or next Winter Soldier in terms of sequel greater than OG.

I feel for Coogler. He already had to deal with the fallout of T'Challa being gone for 5 years and now he has to make it make sense T'Challa is gone.

Let's see what they do. I mean I think it's possible they do just that but still if they don't I wouldn't be mad.
It's a unique situation, Chadwick played a beloved character, made him a phenomenon and was himself highly revered. And he died a few months before a gigantic franchise has to make a decision about a movie. There's no decision that will please everyone.

Iirc, they did a filler 2nd season to give Andy a chance to recover. He didn't recover.

And the new Spartacus never commanded the role the way Andy did. He was always in Andy's shadow and being compared to him.

We gotta wait 40 movies for new T'challa to bring back the feeling?

I like the idea breh had in this thread. Retire T'challa for a min, make a Wakanda movie and then either bring in a new Tchalla from another universe or just do a new Black Panther character not named T'challa

Make it during the blip years. That would solve two issues, T'challa not being there and give them a chance to put Shuri on ice for a min since the actress is bringing too much attention to herself right now.

It's weird to see black people accept that different people can be Batman, Spiderman, etc...because of course you have to have a Bruce Wayne or Peter Parker but they are ready to discard T'Challa like he isn't a character that needs to be around.

They only changed Bruce Waynes and Peter Parkers when rebooting the franchise that isn't the case here.
And if you pull a T'Challa from an alternative universe he is then dead in the universe you pulled him from. lol
