Not saying he was the best option, but I'm kinda disappointed Majors is doing Ant Man 3.

Dude is talented enough to be T'Challa or Achebe (if you saw his "play" scene in Last Black Man in San Francisco you'd understand)

The issue imo is we need more black male franchise characters (Blue Marvel, Miles, etc) and less of these ensemble cast roles used to protect the while male leads from being too vanilla for black n brown audiences. If they do away with T'Challa, then all of a sudden we only have 1 black male lead franchise (Blade) that wouldn't even hit theaters for another 4-5 years, at which point the actor playing him will be 50, and probably another 4-5 years before a sequel.

What's gonna be the in-between? A buncha token black-best friend Falcon and Heimdall types? Chiwetel and Majors as 3rd-4th billed villains in cast-heavy films, instead of franchise lead centerpieces?

Shuri becoming the Black Panther is fukkin stupid - she's already a super important character with a major role to play. you'd be essentially combining the 2 most important characters in Wakanda. that sucks.

just re-write the entire mythos. movies are different from the source material. just let Lupita wear the suit, she's a big star already... name a more pointless character in the MCU. She was a Wakandan spy - Wakanda made themselves known to the world. She was the love interest of the king - the king is dead. Big time actresss with no role.

or pull a Winter Soldier on Killmonger, everyone will forget his past crimes... or just say fukk it, and create a hero. say there is a Wakandan kid who is pure of heart and has all the attributes of the black panther. re-write the rules and have him be BP without being King.

no Winston Duke though. M'Baku is a good character but the actor is a massive doofus.

People have been asking for Shuri to become bp since the sequel. I think it's disgusting that they're using Chadwick Boseman's death to legitimize that demand.

If they really cared about a black female superhero being on screen they would be upset about the way Monica Rambeau was reduced to child side kick in Captain Marvel.

Tchalla as a character is important to all the story lines they're planning like
Skrull Invasion Secret Wars Illuminati excetera.

Long time comic fans are not going to support killmonger ot MBaku becoming BP that will flop

They need to recast the role.
They don't need any weird time travel explanation just put in another actor.

The bolded is my viewpoint to a T.

I don't care much for "long time comic fans" but i'll say this: 90% of those advocating that MCU Shuri take the mantle, never read the comics and never fukked with T'Challa to begin with. Because they were trying to get him up outta there even when Chad was alive.

Monica Rambeau is a bigger deal than Shuri among long time comic fans, yet not a peep about how they neutered her into a 12-year old Carol fangirl. The agenda been clear and i don't think it's the comic fans.

To be fairer Monica will be a character going forward as an adult in WandaVision and is being played by Teyonah Parris. They just introduced her character as a young girl.

Those folks are just representation nazis who hopped on the bandwagon once the film exploded. They should've been clamoring like you said to give Monica a bigger platform in the MCU.

They're the same side coin as the comic heads IMO who want to turn BP2 into the doom/namor/storm movie.

I think they'll just end up re-casting T'Challa , considering like earlier discussed in the thread, BP has always been either T'Challa or Shuri (who in the film is completely different from the comics) story-wise in the comic cannon. The MCU would be swimming in uncharted waters using a new character. Although, I guess they could use Nakia in place of comic Shuri, which the film leaves open (anyone can challenge for the throne and title of BP) for her to fight for the throne, but then again, Coolger kinda closed that door; And they would still have to resolve T'Challa's death/disappearance tastefully, which is hard to do IMO.

Or they could use the multiverse and have a different T'Challa, which is what I would be interested in:hamster:

Part of what i'm saying is Monica and Carol never had that dynamic. They damn near hated each other. There's always been friction in the comics and among fans over who should be "Captain Marvel".

So MCU neutered her into a Carol fanboy to do-away with that potential black girl vs white girl toxicity shyt that would get poppin if they kept Monica and Carol's comic relationship consistent in the movies.

The same way Coogler changed the dynamic of Shuri to where she's younger and wants nothing to do with the BP mantle, to avoid any black woman vs black man shyt. But not a peep about the Carol/Monica recton or expediting Monica's ascent.. and that's a bigger deal among long time comic fans, than anything about Shuri.

I'm more than willing to take up the mantle. just give me a couple of years to get in shape enough to start getting in shape for the role

I think avoiding setting up a Black vs white Captain Marvel situation is a smart move. Do we want that? I don't.

"Long time comic fans" equate to nothing when talking box office. no offense, but you don't matter. they'll never stray too far to piss off a vocal few, but they're not giving more than about 25% of their thought to the original texts. it'd be stupid to. MCU movie fans dwarf comic fans.

They need fan boys for the buzz. That's why birds of prey flopped

Making Killmonger the Black Panther could have been its own movie and they fumbled that imo. The time Killmonger ruled over Wakanda felt like a couple days. Id be fine with Shuri as BP, but id go into the movie accepting that they are taking a step BACK and for story telling purposes would have to give her her first BIG challenge in the second BP film, which just slows everything down. Recast the role, Killmonger, and Shuri would all work. it just depends on what you are willing to sacrifice.

Killmonger would be the most fun for me, because he may not be inherently "good" all the time.... So we would get to watch someone morally grow in order to meet the standard of BP while still being somewhat of a savage.

Yep. Just wasted.

Its also why I hate they deleted W'Kabi's scene in Black Panther. You got Daniel Kaluuya before he really blows up and you shortchange his character.

However, yea dont waste star talent. Unless its true that Majors character will eventually be the big bad of the MCU or a Loki type recurring character.
