The can have a new black panther without recasting. Let Shuri do it for a little while then have someone challenge her honorably and take the throne later at some point. Black panther is a mantle that is passed around anyways.

T’Challa has ALWAYS been the Black Panther though. Its only him and for a brief time Shuri. There is no “someone else” within comic cannon to pass him off too. I guarantee that if they create a character from scratch it’ll flop.

Recasting at some point, whether sooner or later, is inevitable

Yup, this is the central issue with BP, there's really no other detailed history of a different BP other than T'Challa and (for a bit) Shuri, so they'll be swimming in uncharted waters. The MCU might be able to pull it off though since general audiences aren't as comic conscience but I think (RIP) Chadwick's presence will be hard to beat.

I always thought with them introducing the multiverse they could easily use that as a way to intro a different T'Challa into the main MCU and retcon the character that way.

Love Coogler as a director, but I sometimes wonder/fear that he might just be an agreeable dude. I'm talking in terms of loyalty to others. I know he fought for his collaborators to join the MCU.

However, will he fight or push back for T'Challa? Or will he just roll with it on Shuri or another direction?

Its not a character he grew up loving (like that) so he might be ok with the changes. If he demands its T'Challa...they'll make it T'Challa. However, if somebody is in his ear about Shuri...I could see him rolling with it.

He's got the leverage, Marvel can't afford for him to walk away. It's his call basically.

Or She can take the BP mantle and decide being the warrior of Wakanda isnt her calling and she passes the mantle to someone more suitable.

There are alot of compelling stories that can come from this if done right. That still calls for a new BP thats not canon but coli comic heads keep thinking the general public cares about canon material.

based on nothing but me being cynical about hollywood, i feel like Marvel is gonna look into this dude Majors who stars in Lovecraft Country, b/c he's black and "hot" right now. I don't like him - granted i never saw Last Black Man in SF, but i'm not a fan from this or Da 5 Bloods - and I just want to say, no. not him.

thanks for listening.

told ya... not gonna hate though, that's crazy news. good for him. i'm sure i love it.

If BP is anything but a black director, nikkas are not gonna fukk with it.

If Ryan is not with it and Feige tells him :camby: there will be pushback in the black community. His only other hope would be to get McQueen. And even still that might be a problem for black America because he's not a black American.

Not even McQueen. Since Coogler did the first and it was beyond well received there is no substitute. It's whatever Ryan wants to do for the sequel, I'm sure he will have to explain it and how it makes sense and then get approval but if I were MCU producers I would explicitly ask him to lead us forward on this franchise.

I think it would be in their best interest to pitch the Shuri angle to him since that's how it plays out for real. But I agree with you. I'm just saying that if they were hard-pressed to do the sequel and Coog didn't fukk with it, they'd have to find someone black who wouldn't fukk it up and McQueen is the only person I could think of.

Don't want to see this get Throne'd with someone's fukked up ideas.

I’m telling you right now thats a terrible idea.

There IS no one else suitable Besides T’Challa or Shuri.

Name one. ONE MCU movie that completely made up a brand new hero that took the place not within canon.

Any Black Panther not named T’Challa or Shuri will flop horribly

they haven't been in this position. their star died and it's further complicated by him just so happening to be the one hero who didn't have a history of others stepping in for him, doesn't give much wiggle room.

not saying go fly off the cuff, but i'm expecting them to do some focus groups, and if introducing a new BP seems more palatable to movie audiences (which dwarf comic readers) than recasting or turning to a female BP so quickly, that's the way they'll go.
