Where it crosses into incel territory for me is the scapegoating of society for a personal decision to end people.

That's not what an incel is though.

An incel is someone that is involuntary celibate, someone that lashes out at the world for not being able to find a partner.

There's nothing in this movie to indicate the Joker's issues with society are due to his inability to get p*ssy.

People doing fukked up shyt and then blaming society for it isn't new and it doesn't make that person an incel.

Art is subjective. Went to an art museum over the weekend and there were things in there that I wouldn’t say is “art” but clearly someone else does. No two people are going to view everything the same. You and I can watch the same episode of the Simpsons and walk away with two different views of the same thing. That in itself means it’s subjective. It’s not a lie. The only objective truth in this world is fact-based stuff like physics, math, etc. 2+2=4. That’s always going to be 4. I can’t look at the numbers in a different way and say “well no, I believe 2+2=26” but I can look at a movie and view it differently than you. If you see the joker and think it’s bad but I see it and think it’s good, both views are valid and there’s no right or wrong answer.

We are the summation of our experiences and we take those experiences into everything. Skyfall is always going to hit me hard because at its core, the movie is about someone losing their mother. That shyt will always affect me and I can’t divorce myself from that life experience while watching it.

On the flip side, my best friend loves interstellar while I don’t. But for him, it’s a movie about a father and daughter connecting through time and space and finding each other no matter the obstacle. And as a man with a daughter, that shyt has a profound impact on him and it gets him in a way I won’t be able to understand until I’m in his shoes. That’s the subjective part. I spoke to a director yesterday and he echoed that in a brief sentence: movies are what you make of them.

but this new world / society / math is making us look at those absolutes in a different ways. Instead of saying 2+2=4... they're making us go ... well ..4 is 2+2 but its also 5-1 and 100-96 and 4-0 or 1+3 maybe 3+1 just because the originator doesn't like 2+2

Just came back from it. Saw it on base since I’m overseas. It was a packed house, more than spider man which I saw out here.

What a great, great movie. The score, the cinematography, the acting were all 10 out of 10.

Phoenix killed it, I’m not gonna do comparisons to jack or heath because they all had different takes on the character, but Phoenix was brilliant.

Everyone gave it a standing ovation at the end of it.

I can’t give it a full 10, to soon for that but it’s a solid 9.

My daughter 12 we watched the remake of IT the other day I would feel comfortable taking her to see this
She thought Logan was dope seen that at 11

‘Joker’ Is Wild Thursday With $13.3M Box Office, Tops ‘Venom’ October Record – Deadline

UPDATED, 7:15 AM PT Friday: Warner Bros/Village Roadshow’s R-rated Joker grossed $13.3 million at the Thursday box office, breaking the record for an October preview set by Sony’s Venom last year.

Joker also beat the Thursday previews of such R-rated films as Deadpool ($12.7M), It Chapter Two ($10.5M), its director Todd Phillips’ Hangover 2 ($10.4 million) and Logan ($9.5M). The record is owned by Deadpool 2, which grossed $18.6 million in May 2018.

PREVIOUS EXCLUSIVE, early Friday AM update after 7:20 PM Thursday post, with exit polls: Warner Bros/Village Roadshow’s R-rated Joker is headed toward an October Thursday night preview record of $10M-$12M, which would upset the $10M made by Venom a year ago. Booked at 4,374 theaters on Friday, Joker is the widest release ever for the month of October as well, ahead of Venom‘s 4,250.

Not sure I buy that definition. I think there's diversity within the incel community. Guys who get p*ssy, who have girlfriends, and still have an extreme hatred of women, minorities, or anyone who they feel threatens or slights men like them. Wasn't there just an incel murder where some guy slashed the throat of his girl just for daps?

I noticed two of the negative reviews I read mentioned the movie didn't "say anything." I hate that pretentious prattle. A lot of modern day negative reviews turn into these grandiose think pieces and they always criticize a movie for not making some impactful, society changing statement.

Let the movie itself be a statement on it's own.

I'm not disagreeing that's the origin or majority, but don't you think their community has expanded and diversified to include anyone who just hates and wants to be an edge Lord. Like does it even matter anymore why they are hateful?

Edit: you know this would actually make a great study. Find out if the original incel community has absorbed others, like hate groups, and morphed into something else. I suspect it has.
