Was watching Taxi Driver with DeNiro earlier today and couldn't help but wonder what these soft cancel culture fascist fakkits would think of that movie if it dropped today...

Travis Bickle was a incel sociopath who said fukk it and turned into a homicidal vigilante...
Especially when he became a "hero" at the end of the movie.

That is fukken hilarious you say that because that movie inspired a man to try to assassinate a president to impress Jodie Foster.

There will be more "Heather Antos" out there taking that approach and saying the movie is problematic but it's only helping the movie and now that it's won a major festival award for Best Film opinions like hers are going to be taken with a grain of salt

What do you call mobilizing a mob through the use of faux outrage to censor people/opinions you don't like? You know who used that tactic? Adolph Hitler and the Nazi party...what were they again?

Blaming Taxi Driver for an insane stalker obsessed with Jodie Foster was stupid back then and equally stupid now...That crazy fukk was always going to do something crazy to impress the woman he was obsessively stalking...Hinckley's demented mind thought of many ways of impressing Foster before settling on assassinating a president...One of those ways was to commit suicide in front of her and another was hijacking an airplane...He settled on assassinating a President because of the historical implications and notoriety...

Failing to develop any meaningful contact with the actress, Hinckley fantasized about conducting an aircraft hijacking or committing suicide in front of her to get her attention. Eventually, he settled on a scheme to impress her by assassinating the president, thinking that by achieving a place in history, he would appeal to her as an equal. Hinckley trailed President Jimmy Carter from state to state, and was arrested in Nashville, Tennessee, on a firearms charge. Penniless, he returned home. Despite psychiatric treatment for depression, his mental health did not improve. He began to target the newly elected president Ronald Reagan in 1981. To this purpose, he collected material on the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

So should Marty not have made one of the best films of all time because some crazy fukk like this guy wanted to do something crazy and his defense team might use his film as part of his insanity defense? :comeon:

Never mind the fact this crazy fukks motive had nothing in common with Travis Bickle...Travis Bickle attempt to assassinate Palantine was his rejection of a system he sees as hypocritical, self-serving and uncaring...He turned to vigilantism to clean up the city he saw as a cesspool of debauchery and sleaze...He tried to save Jodie Fosters character by killing her pimp...

How frequent/deadly were mass shootings in 76?

I said in the other thread about "canceling" this movie, I'm excited to see it, I'm also very aware that movies have inspired real life movies/movements.

You can want artistic freedom and look to the level headedness of the general public while acknowledging the obvious ("we" aren't very level headed) We just had a Joker inspired idiot shoot up a movie theater the last time this character was put in the spotlight. Does that mean people shouldn't make movies? Of course not, but the notion that something like this, in this current climate might give a legion of wackos inspiration isn't far fetched if not very likely. The whole "it's not really a comic book movie", grounded in realism thing makes it even more likely IMO.

Ain't nobody in their basement trying to build infinity gauntlets. Plenty of cacs with guns, knives, explosives with "mental health" issues posted up in their mothers basements feeling like the world owes them something.

That being said, I can't wait to peep this flick.
