It's kinda crazy when you think about it. These kids grew up hearing about(and some of them living through) this epic ass time in history all their houses were a part of. Everything down from the War of the Ninepenny Kings to Balon's Rebellion was all they could have hoped for in terms of adventure. Now they're literally living through a second Long Night.
