Nope, from Valyria in Essos. Allegedly it was destroyed by some cataclysmic event known as "The Doom" (prolly volcanic eruptions) centuries before the events of the show. Some say the Faceless Men are responsible in some way. Also, all of the free cities in the west of Essos are former Valyrian colonies besides Braavos and Lorath I think...

Still doesn't make sense if you know he has an older brother named Aegon. Rhaegar wanted three heads of the dragon. Jon being the third since Elia couldn't risk having anymore kids.
Only way I could figure is if he really annulled the marriage and knowingly illegitimized and abandoned the first two kids and said fukk it. Let's start over and make another 3.

Which is why it makes more sense that he didn't know his son would be named that. Who's to say he didn't believe the dragons heads were to be himself, Dany and his chosen son (Jon/Aegon)?
But honestly, a guy like Rhaegar wouldn't have cared about being called a deadbeat if he knew it meant bringing the Prince that was Promised in to the world.
Not really, if he chose Lyanna to be his wife there's no way he wouldn't have talked about the Prophecy. And its clear that she believed in it too (or at least knew how important it was to Rhaegar). The Kingsguard at the Tower of Joy clearly knew Rhaegar was dead, so they prolly knew that the kids and Elia were dead too. Knowing that she coulda have easily said "Welp, his name is Aegon".

But A Dream of Spring will never see the light of day, and if it does it will only be because GRRM extended the series to 8 books (and we will never get the 8th)
GRRM has far too many threads tangled right now and he will never unweave them before he dies.
