I think the writers didn't like Stannis and it showed in some ways
I think it was a waste of Dillane's skill because imo his portrayal of Stannis was PERFECT but he had a shytty character translation to deal with (that he made the most of)

No, the name of the first book was Game of Thrones, which the show was named after. That book was about the throne. The name of the series is A Song of Ice and Fire. Not "A Song of Thrones"

Robb was after vengeance for Ned and rescuing his sisters. He never wanted the iron throne.

Stannis talked about it because
1. The crown is his by right
2. He wanted to use his power as king to unite the realm against what the show is really about (The White Walkers marching on the Wall)
Again the show tells you all of this
1. He got his ass whooped in blackwater & again. Nothing is "rightfully" his
2. He & Renley both wanted to be king because of their ego, not shyt to do with white walkers

I'm saying, if the point of the show is the Iron Throne and all this political, chess move shyt then The White Walkers wouldn't exist. The Night's Watch killed Jon Snow over their fukk ass "oath" when none of that is going to matter in a Hardhome type situation.
IMO that's the point of the show. The White Walkers don't care about none of that shyt.
