Yea in hindsight, Stannis naming joffery was pointless as fukk. Actually the 3 names he named was pointless, because he's no closer to claiming the throne even if the 3rd name (Balon Greyjoy) drops dead.
Naming Tywin alone would have made a bigger difference in changing the tide in his favor.
This basically sums up the issue with Stannis. He misses the finer points of politics and the world he lives in. Davos even says this in this episode. Everyone that disagrees with him, his rule, or his religion doesn't have to die or bend the knee. You have to sometimes come to terms with enemies and people who have fundamental differences from you. Tywin understands this perfectly, and that's why he's talking with Oberyn, who is at complete odds with him. Why he struck deals with the Freys and Bolton, tho they originally fought against him. If Stannis, Renly, and Robb were to come to some type of terms at the start of the war, lannisters would never had stood a chance. I wouldn't hate seeing Stannis on the throne, but he needs a complete change in mindset before he's worthy of the crown.
