its not really revenge, the wildlings and the giants and the thenns have all been just happy living north of the wall their whole lives. they are free to do what they want and marry who they want and dont have to kneel to no man. BUT ever since the whitewalkers started popping up and killing them, they decided to run south. in season 1 when bran gets snatched up by some wildlings(including osha), they say they are running south. as far south as they can get.

Usually the Wildlings are pretty divided, not united like you see now. but since the White Walkers are now gathering way up north, that's bad news for pretty much everyone. So they united under Mance( think he proved his worth by winning some duel) and are heading south to get as far away from the White Walkers are they can.
