With how crowded the summer is with big releases, I guess Universal said fukk it. I honestly believe Vin Diesel announcing that this movie was now the first of three parts (instead of two) killed all of it's buzz.

It will. Even if the budget is really $340M the general rule is 2x the budget at the box office and it's almost there and then digital rentals/purchases and TV rights allocations will push it further into the black.

They shouldn't have spent that much though if the rumored budget is true. No reason to.
