I've seen the same argument in TLR recently and it's just not true. Trump can't debate. All he can do is insult and ramble. That stuff isn't going to work on someone like Biden. When it comes to current policy Biden will have Trump by the balls. And he's no push over when it comes to insults. He can get aggressive.

Health care: Biden says "I want to add a public option while Trump has tried to take away the ACA and get the Supreme Court to strike it down." Trump has no comeback for that. Biden wins that argument.

Immigration: Biden says "I want to put an immigration reform bill through Congress, protect border security and stop locking up kids in cages. Trump has no comeback for that. Biden wins that argument.

The only argument that Trump wins is gun control. Trump is going to look like an idiot on that stage.

as i remember it, hillary won the first and third debates. trump won the second one where they were walking around and he said he would throw her in prison

but yeah, trump is a fukking terrible debater. he only did good in the RNC primary debates when he turned them into rallies and he had the crowd laughing at jeb bush and ted cruz. but if they're really in a no-audience format then trump will do awful

the thing about biden is that he speaks with authority and knowledge, which he should after 30 years in the government. he's old, but his credibility was always there in the debates. trumps is nonexistent

Still not convinced there will even be debates.
Even less convinced that the debates will have any meaningful impact on the election if they happen. Trump can get his ass handed to him (just like 2016) but as long as he gets off some dumb one-liners his base will eat it up.

I voted Bernie and I think if Bernie was the nominee, Trump would be slaughted on stage. This crisis has made it where all the shyt Sanders said that people labeled as "crazy" socialist shyt, now seems like exactly what we need. 35 million unemployed and added to the uninsured rolls. Trump has shown that the full force of the government apparatus is needed to handle this issue right now which it has failed to do.

But I didn't want to believe it at first, but there is a contingent of "Sanders supporters" who are unable to see the bigger picture here and act like adults and they are insufferable. I put the Sanders Supporters in quotes because I don't think they are as much Sanders supporters as they are ideological zealots. I can't help but think they come from a place of privilege with no challenges to act the way they are acting given the current circumstances. I get you never want to give up the fight but right now no one is interested in bickering over political differences and the coronavirus is the #1 priority for most people right now. The fact they can't let go of the old political back and forth that was at the forefront before all this shyt started is mind-numbing to witness. How can you watch this shyt unfolding and not realize that right now getting Trump out is the number one priority?

I think the confusion comes from people still believing "presidential election debates" are actual debates being scored on logic and oration skills. They're not. They're closer to a joaning session than a debate. They're basically just WWE promos. No one cares about the positions the candidates hold, no one is coming to actually be informed about the issues, they're coming to watch 2 brands engage in a crossover event and gawk at the spectacle.

Trump won the 2016 debates because he was able to promote his brand more than Hillary did. Absolutely no one remembers any of political content they actually "debated" about, or how Hillary was more factual than Trump was, people just remember Trump stalking Hillary around the stage and saying he'd throw her in jail. Trump won the debates precisely because he is a laughable actual debater.

I don't think people realize how historically unpopular Trump is right now. He's Bush I/Jimmy Carter-level with an economy worse than both of their recessions.
