No if you sat the phone on an NFC card reader it would pop up automatically. If you held the phone with the right finger on the home button and just moved it there it was instant.You didn't have to double click the home button to bring up apple pay? I always did.
You might be able to do it with an X but you have to point the phone so it sees you at the same time. I sat my X on top of my Note8 and it triggerd the Apple Pay once.

Yellow is due to True Tone, I believe. I dunno if I like it or not but I leave it on
Getting home isn't the problem. It's the spill over because the button is gone due to other features having to be remapped:I love my X

Siri got moved to the power button.
You now need two keys to turn off the phone instead of just power alone.
You have to press 3 keys in sequence if the phone freezes.
You now have wasted space at the bottom of the screen because they need to make sure you can swipe up.
You now have to long press at the app switcher to close apps. You used to be able to just bring up the switcher and close them.
There is now a second action required to unlock the phone. Swipe up. With the home button it was one action to unlock.
Same with Apple Pay because FaceID needs to see you to trigger the optimal way is to double press power look at the phone then place it by the NFC reader.
For tech enthusiasts adjusting to these minor annoyances is simple. For some common users some of this stuff they'll forget they use it so infrequently. Especially the force rebooting of the phone when it freezes.
I feel like adding another side button or TouchID on the back of the phone solves many of these things. Still not sure why they refused.

I got mine today, although Apples delivery times have dropped to 2-3 weeks, I was reluctant about ordering and having to wait.

Itunes..downloading music..transferring files to your laptop outside the Apple Ecosystem...can't use multiple apps in split screen. Limited. Like a kid trapped in a bubble.
i transfer files pretty easy. i really could care about using multiple apps via split screen
