please explain further.. no more contracts? no more discounts? when does this go in effect?
Sometime in 2013. Value plans are contract plans. You get the discount on the plan not the phone like we are used to. I'm going copy and paste my response from my other post to help explain.
I see there are plenty of miss informed people in here. This is better deal then the normal subsidized plan. Let me give y'all an example. Let's you say you buy a high end phone for $299.99 in a regular subsidized plan. Lets add these up:
AT&T:
Phone up front cost (for exp iPhone 5 32GB): $299.99
Reg subs Plan for unlimited talk & text and 3 GB of data on AT&T $99.99 per month
x24months
Equals a total cost of $2700 over 2 yrs.
T-mobile value plan with unlimited talk, text and true unlimited high speed data is $69.99
A un-subsidized iPhone 5 32Gb is $749
Lets say T-mo wanted a down payment of $249 and monthly installments of $25 for 20 months which would equal $749.
$69.99 x 24 = 1679.76+
249.99+
25.00x
20.00=
2428.75 over 2 yrs.
AT&T: Phone + Plan 2700.00
T-mobile: Phone + plan is 2428.75
Equals a total savings of 271.75 over 2 yrs. Plus you get unlimited data!
So you are not spending more with value plan + buying phone at full price. You are saving money. You can save more if you bring you own phone! We need to get off of this subsidy mindset the all the carriers have us in.
