I liked Anora but at no point while matching it in the theaters did I think “this is an Oscars winning film”. That crew must be well connected behind the scenes cause I genuinely don’t get it. 5 Oscars? Damn
Yeah that movie is definitely not best pic worthy but the oscars misfire most of the time it seems. Best screenplay too when the entire movies it's just people yelling in annoying accents. You have to tolerate the young kids annoying attempt at English for half the movie and her yelling the rest of the movie. That house scene where they try to subdue her lasts like 40 minutes it seemed, I almost tapped out. I know it was trying to be a comedy but it just wasn't very funny either.

Demi was robbed.

I'll never understand it lmao

I never said anything about the quality of those films. I said there hasn’t been a decent movie that I wanna watch over and over since the 2000s, which is about half of those movies you listed.

I watched Parasite and it’s a film I don’t plan on watching again. Coda, Moonlight, and 12YAS are films that don’t interest me.

Departed

glad Mikey won. she was magnetic. that movie delivered on the hype. the narrative that Demi Moore deserved it for the body of her work was bullshyt the whole time. she's not an acting legend. she's had a great career, but at almost no point in the past 40 years were people slobbering over her acting abilities. i don't even know what would qualify as Oscar baity shyt she's done. Ghost, GI Jane? one of the John Hughes adjacent movies? showing her t*ts in Showgirls? Mikey showed her t*ts in a better movie.
Striptease, not Showgirls

I wrote a review at the time (off the coli) and knew it was 5/5 for what it was.

So another one hit wonder winner? :heh:

Still haven’t seen Oppenheimer, but everything before that, you gotta go back to the 2000s to find a decent movie worth watching today. Even with that in mind, I don’t know if anyone gonna be talking about those movies decades later. Maybe Gladiator? I like Departed, but I’m not sure if that’s a film plenty will bring up with high regard.

I knew exactly what you're saying, but if don't think Parasite or No Country for Old Men has replayability then it's just a difference of opinion :hubie:
I literally said the 2000s was the last decade with winning movies that have replay value. :snoop:

NCFOM is a classic; I own the movie. I’ll never watch Parasite again. I fukk with Del Toro, but Shape of Water was a one and done.

It's just because Emilia Perez blew it.

This was a bad year, no way around it.

Because you twisted my opinion around and couldn’t comprehend my point. I said most of the winning movies dating back to the 2010s aren’t anything worth watching over and over. I even stated the 2000s, which includes 2/4 films you listed, was The last decade with movies that have replay value. I didn’t even say anything about Oppenheimer and mentioned movies BEFORE it.

I re-read your post and you brought up Gladiator from the 2000s and dismissed The Departed which has ton of replayability

No, That post is 2 different things: Oscar winning movies having replay value and if they will be talked about decades from now.

I fukks with Departed because I love gangster films, especially Marty directing, but I don’t know if it’s gonna be a film highly praised decades from now, especially among Oscar winning films.
