It's clear few people in this thread have seen The Father. Anthony Hopkins delivers the best leading man performance in maybe a decade and top 5 this century.
I feel what you’re saying, but they could have gave it to Boseman. Hopkins already has an Oscar anyway

If it happened in the last 4-5 years I'd agree because those have all been good to very good and with no clear stand-out but Hopkins was just unreal. Haven't seen this kinda performance in so many years.

The Father was a dope movie and Hopkins was amazing. But Chadwick was too and he deserved it. Nomadland is typical Oscar nonsense. Its an obviously well made film but its boring and Ive literally not heard anyone say a word about it other than the movie folks I follow and pay attention to. Doesn’t seem like actual regular people even care that it exists and I have no desire to ever see any part of it again

This is literally every year with the Oscars. Most of the beat picture or best leading actor awards be for some boring ass movie no one has ever seen except for the voters and after watching a few of them over the years after the Oscar hype I typically think they are trash movies.

At this point I don’t know why anyone cares who wins these awards or Grammys.

Didn’t tenet win something? No one I know liked that movie. These awards aren’t for the average movie goer.

Theory/opinion
Boseman lost for two reasons
The awards season was long as hell this year , so all the momentum towards him winning started to waiver as the season went along.
Ma Rainey was an ok movie if it was a stronger movie both Davis and Boseman would’ve won hands down

That's why Denzel's gotta switch it up with these August Wilson plays imo. I enjoy them, but they feel trapped inside the text.

Maybe thats why he wants Barry Jenkins to do The Piano Lesson.

Did Tyler really have to include “cop” in his speech? It was so well done but it felt like he was advised to through that in there
