Nah he was legit worthy to win. If anything they punished him for the film itself feeling too much like a play. Like they did Denzel with Fences. I know Viola won that year but the comp wasn't the same.

I don't mind Hopkins winning because he gave an excellent performance.

BUT it was wrong as hell for the Academy to telegraph the whole damn ceremony as if Chad was gonna win. They did all this shuffling and they weren't even aware of the winner beforehand? You got peoples hopes up for nothing and that old ass cac wasn't even there.

They clearly ended it thinking Chadwick was gonna win. It was a mistake on their part, and it came back to bite them in the ass. They should've just stuck with the traditional format of ending it with Best Picture. As for Hopkins winning, he's no slouch and he definitely gave an Oscar-worthy performance, but they missed a huge opportunity to give Chadwick a nice send-off. Oh well

Theory/opinion
Boseman lost for two reasons
The awards season was long as hell this year , so all the momentum towards him winning started to waiver as the season went along.
Ma Rainey was an ok movie if it was a stronger movie both Davis and Boseman would’ve won hands down

The Father was a dope movie and Hopkins was amazing. But Chadwick was too and he deserved it. Nomadland is typical Oscar nonsense. Its an obviously well made film but its boring and Ive literally not heard anyone say a word about it other than the movie folks I follow and pay attention to. Doesn’t seem like actual regular people even care that it exists and I have no desire to ever see any part of it again

Yea Nomadland is one of those movies that you would have to been a film buff to actually hear of that movie it’s so low key
I consider myself a super film buff and I barely heard about it

How was that better than his performance in Ma Rainey? He was barely in it and that role didn't have as much range.
