The same reason south Brooklyn was left out. Caribbean areas that are more into reggae than hip hop lol. Pop smoke is the reason Canarsie is even known now. Years ago it was laughing stock of a neighborhood.

The Field, Edenwald, Williamsbridge... I remember seeing some of the wildest shyt in the North when the YG'z and the Valley and all them was clappin everything moving, madness. I don't know about the hip hop history out there but I know the street element was thick.

The South East/West Bronx/South Bronx has longer/deeper roots in the foundations of HipHop. Dj Breakout & Baron/Funky 4 + 1 is the oldest branch of HipHp from the North Bronx and they came in around 1977

Btw 1.5 million people live in the Bronx, as usual people think boroughs in NY are like hoods in their city. When in reality they are larger than their whole city in most cases.

Yeah if every other borough besides Staten Island were their own cities they would make up 4 of the top 10 most populous cities in the entire country

And even Staten Island would still be top 40 - it has almost as many people as Atlanta
