Now that JOKER has reached $1 billion, how does Disney look spending $300mil per film?

What’s false? I specifically said gross. All those movies grossed a billion +. You’re getting into profitability. And those movies all turned a size able profit and that’s not even considering merchandising.

and again it’s great the Joker did this. But I Don’t know if this kind of movie is repeatable withal a lesser known villain.

You always get this worked up over these arguments? You're in every Marvel thread lately going hard af give it a rest. Last time I saw you you were trying to tell us Scorsese was just "some guy"... :francis:

I'm still trying to figure out the mainstream appeal of the movie. It's a slow burn psychological thriller.

Since everyone is ignoring the talk about spending costs, which is actually a viable debate because Joker is said to end up making as much net profit as Endgame did, there is a big difference that easily allows Marvel/Disney to spend 300 million on a movie.

Because their movies are essentially just big commercials for toys/merchandise/cartoons/games/etc. which is a billion dollar industry in its own right.

It's funny that outside of the Cars sequels and Planes spin-off (which everybody knew only existed because the merchandise money was so big) nobody ever takes that into account. But of course, that would force people and media to look at bigger pictures around filmmaking than just copy paste some shyt they saw on BoxOfficeMojo as a talking point.

You must have me confused with someone else. Please quote the post where I refer to Scorsese as some guy. I gave dude proper respect as a filmmaker, while also commenting about how his films don’t make enough money to justify the budget he wanted. If you’re going to try and troll me, please be accurate. And please have something constructive to contribute.

I think it’s kind of a perfect storm. The Joker name and Batman allusions got a lot more eyes on it than a movie like this normally would have. I also don’t really think it’s a psychological thriller. The movie is more or less a crazy person having life shyt on them over and over again, until they snap. But it’s a bit more straightforward and engaging than most thrillers.

I do wonder how it would have performed had it been titled Clown and they removed all the Batman references.

You know better than that. Joker and Marvel movies are both marketed at the same core audience: white guys. Trump got elected the same way. Forget what everyone else is saying about “inclusion“, go after the people with the most disposable income and the most gripes with the world (even if they’re imaginary).

On top of the hype it was given, the whole incel/school shooter inspiration stories the media provided took it to the next level and made people want to see if it was really that crazy.

and dumbing down their films for china, filled with cheap dialog and one liners so they are easier to translate
spending $$ on big name actors and special effects, do you think this will effect the marvel movies going forward?

will they give more chances to indie/adult films like deadpool that we would never get with disney?

imho the average comic book breh has a lot of power...comic heroes have been around a LONG time and they is a huge demographic old to young of people that grew up with them

You know why this makes me happy? Because I would always complain to my friends that Hollywood has all but abandoned Rated R films due to their greed in pursuing the “every age range” demographic audience.

Yes, I understand it’s a business, but shyt, in the 70s, 80, and 90s they at least catered to the Rated R audience.

Hopefully, just hopefully, Hollywood takes heed and at least goes back to making a bit more Rated R movies. I don’t need to be in a theater full of 13 years old every time I attend a flick.

It's an original story about one of the greatest villians.

Everything is aimed at White guys. It doesn't mean other groups can't be aimed for too.

Look at Aladdin, Black Panther, Captain Marvel.

5 of Disney’s last 6 MCU movies grossed more than Joker, why the fukk would they switch up what basically letting them print money?

Serious question. Is there any other villain that you could make a movie about that would even come close to this much money? Or is this a 1 off because the Joker is uniquely situated in pop culture and the Joker as an icon is so ambiguous you can take risks and not piss off a sizeable portion of the fan base the way Snyder did.

I agree with you and I’m not trying shyt on Marvel movies, at all, but the Joker budget was only 55-70 million, so the flip on that money was crazy percentage wise. What’s even crazier is that it won’t even be shown in Chinese theaters.

End game made 2.79 billion, with a 400 million dollar budget and a lot of that box office was due to the Chinese Audience (which marvel made concessions for changing one of the characters from Tibetan, among other things).

Granted, I rather make 2.79 billion than a billion BUT had Joker been released in Chinese theaters, it would be looking at 2 Billlion dollar box office receipts, which is insane on it relatively small budget.
