I hate threads like this. It’s entirely possible to celebrate the success of the joker without shytting on marvel. It’s entirely possible to ponder if the joker film is an exception or has it opened up a market for a different style of films.

but instead, we get this stupid Stan wars. And the MCU supporters just saying look at the scoreboard. It’s great the joker is making a ton of money, but it’s fukking stupid to make a thread like this when Marvel literally just broke every record except all time domestic gross with a bunch of characters that were basically C listers 10 years ago. I’m still blowed Antman film even exists. Let alone made 500 million+. Or that captain marvel made a billion.

I sincerely doubt Bob Iger or some other exec is somewhere like "We need to green light a Rated-R movie that MIGHT reach a billion to appease the Marvel haters instead of releasing films with mass appeal that WILL reach a billion."

I wonder how much capt marvel being advertised as a prelude to endgame had to do with how much it made. It was the cinematic equivalent of putting the mgs2 demo in zone of enders.

5 of Disney’s last 6 MCU movies grossed more than Joker, why the fukk would they switch up what basically letting them print money?

Serious question. Is there any other villain that you could make a movie about that would even come close to this much money? Or is this a 1 off because the Joker is uniquely situated in pop culture and the Joker as an icon is so ambiguous you can take risks and not piss off a sizeable portion of the fan base the way Snyder did.

I will try to be diplomatic so as not to rile up the stans....but you seem to forget DC tried to mimic Marvel and failed. So they said "fukk it" and did their own thing.

If the DCEU took off....not saying this movie don't exist....but it would not be a priority, for obvious reasons.

Joker worked because the tone fit the character just like it worked for Logan. They had room to make this and I think they would have as a one off side story regardless of the success or failure of the other movies.

This notion that Marvel needs to do something different is stan talk. They're the same ones who were swearing Justice League and DCEU were gonna crush the buildings, same ones who went crazy for Aquaman, etc. They wanted the same thing the MCU had but look at them now after things didn't go their way.
