Listen to a random Usher song produced by JD and then listen to a random Usher song produced by the Neptunes. You will "feel" the difference.

The Neptunes don't have a "Let It Burn" in their stash

granted this was just Pharrell, but :wow:

and let us not forget they did all of the Snoop- Bush album

on the flip side, Timbo could never do what the Neptunes do without sounding out of place because his sound doesn't stretch as far.

Damn, I had this album:wow:

I don't know breh, something is just missing with that song you just posted. :patrice:

It sounds kinda stiff and robotic to me. It doesn't feel "urban". It doesn't sound like it would get play on an urban radio station unlike something like this:

because the drums go harder. Tim always had an edge with the drums. He also had the benefit of learning from Devante Swing who specialized in making the music Timbo does now. Pharrell had Teddy Riley who more into innovating. The schools of thought where they honed their craft were different in approach.

Also keep in mind, Timbo sampled plenty. The Neptunes only sampled early on (Use Your Heart being one of them). They avoided sampling

Timbaland's reach is further than The Neptunes. Tim produced a country meets Hip Hop album for Bubba Sparxxx. He broke an alternative Rock act. He flipped Middle Eastern and Indian samples and made huge hits out of them. He had production that people were yrying to lump into Drum & Bass, Grunge, Techno, and other genres. He nade Louis Armstrong inspired track for Cee Lo Green.

Yea you right, I was thinking that Timbo also had Missy and Static Major in his camp as writers. They were responsible for alot of the overall feel as far as vocals and harmony go.

Another element of Tim's production in terms of soul is that he added atmosphere to his beats. Outside of his drum programming, him making crickets and chirping birds into instruments added to that. Even him using his beat boxing as an added percussion also added to it.

Devante didn't make the music that Tim makes. Devante was straight R&B. Tim is far more versatile and innovative. Yeah he learned from Devante, but early Timbaland had crickets, what sounded like burping frogs, stuttering drums, etc. in his production. Tim also leaned more towards Hip Hop and Devante only ever did a handful of tracks for rappers.

This would be a dope thread in itself:patrice:

Idk, I personally think Neptunes is the more diverse of the 2.

I mean they got their N.E.R.D rock shyt.

Their reggae/dancehall influenced joints:

N.O bounce

Str8 boombap hip-hop

Legit R&B

I see what you saying tho. Both are diverse and talented as hell. I'm not mad at anyone saying Timbo is further reaching:manny:
